Preplanned Gardens for 2011

Easy DIY Gardens

Sandy James
Would you like to have a preplanned garden that looks beautiful and is designed by someone in the gardening industry? Many garden nurseries offer preplanned gardens because they've become very popular over the years. I've been checking out the new designs for preplanned gardens in 2011 and there's some very attractive choices out there.

Many of us can't afford to hire a landscaper or take classes on designing a garden. That's where the popularity of preplanned gardens comes in. Preplanned gardens are easy to do and most garden nurseries offer several different types of preplanned gardens. These gardens are great because the design has been done for you; you just need to plant everything. All preplanned gardens come with instructions and a blueprint of how to layout your plants.

Preplanned gardens are also a very nice gift idea for someone you know that enjoys gardening. Whether it's a birthday, a nice thank you gift, Mother's or Father's Day, or no reason at all, preplanned gardens will put a smile on your gardener's face.

The following websites offer several different preplanned gardens, and I've chosen one from each website. They are reputable nurseries and I've ordered from all of them. If you'd like to view any of these preplanned gardens, just click on the heading and the link will take you there.

'Pretty In Pink' Preplanned Garden
A new garden design for 2011 from High Country Gardens, this low-maintenance preplanned garden has 18 plants and most are late spring blooming. The garden will fit a 10-12 ft. wide x 6-8 ft. deep planting area and that's roughly 60-96 sq. ft. Colors of pink, purple, yellow, and green make up this preplanned garden. You'll receive Penstemons, Coreopsis, Artemisias, Salvias, Achilleas, and Nepetas. These plants are drought tolerant, deer resistant, and rabbit proof. 'Pretty In Pink' is specially designed for Zones 4-9 and the cost for this lovely garden is $107.82.

Drought Tolerant Sun Garden
This very attractive low-maintenance garden comes from Spring Hill Nursery. This garden is designed for full sun to partial shade. Beautiful colors and an unusual touch of adding a tall Zebra Grass for the backdrop makes this preplanned garden a winner. There are 17 plants included in this garden and the color palette is blues, yellows, pinks, purple, and red. You need to view this one. The plants for this drought tolerant garden are Zebra Grass, Russian Sage, Cornflower, Butterfly Weed, Lavender, Gaillardia, Blue Festuca, and Dragon's Blood Sedum. This preplanned garden will fill a 7 ft. x 4 ft. area or a little larger. This garden is good for Zones 5-8 and the cost is $99.99.

Shade Garden
Offered by White Flower Farm Nursery, this shade garden is very natural looking. A very soft looking preplanned garden, it can have some sun and blooms from April - June. Very pretty colors in white, pink, and blue, it contains 24 plants. Virginia Bluebells, pink and white Bleeding Hearts, and variegated Solomon's Seal which adds a nice touch after the blooming period are included in this preplanned garden. Designed for zones 4-9, and the cost is $119.

Butterfly Garden
This is one of the best deals that I found this year in preplanned gardens. This garden comes from Bluestone Perennials and the garden is designed for a corner of the yard or patio. The color palette is blues, reds, yellows, and purple. You'll need a sunny corner to watch this preplanned garden bloom early summer until frost. There are 24 plants that will fit a 9 ft. x 11 ft. corner layout. Plants included in this butterfly garden are Phlox, Asters, Chives, Sedum, Rudbeckia, Coreopsis, Coneflower, Agastache, Yarrow, Monarda, and Buddleia. A very pretty assortment for Zones 5-8, this is an incredible preplanned garden for only $59.95.

All of these preplanned gardens are very attractive, it just depends on what you're looking for.

I can do a bit of gardening, but not enough space for the preplanned ones. So nice for those who have space. rcj
