A healthy diet is a great thing to have during pregnancy, but what most people don't know, a healthy diet is also very important before pregnancy. The healthier your body is, the more prone to getting pregnant your will be. There are food and drink out in the consumer markets that will aid in your ability to get pregnant and there are also foods that will harm your ability to get pregnant.

Aiding foods and Drink

Soybeans -contain isoflavones, plant compounds that may help regulate reproductive hormone production and make ovulation more consistent.

UN -processed foods will boost your fertility. Some of these foods are pasta, crackers, whole grain bread, brown rice, cereal that are rich in fibers, barley, sweet potatoes, vegetables and fruits.

Green tea has a very high source of antioxidants in it; they allow a person to boost their immune system, which in turn will allow for a better chance of contraception.

Vitamin C foods, such as citric helps build the body's immune system.

Calcium is a very important consumption, when trying to become pregnant, weather it is from a food source or a drink source; it will help build stronger bones.

Vitamin B6 and Folic Acid are probably two of the most important ones to consume. B6 reproductive hormone regulator and folic acid helps to prevent certain neuro-tube defects in the fetus. Foods high in these two are green leafy vegetables, whole grains, and nuts.

Water- keeping the body hydrated is very important. Drinking 8 glasses of water is standard.

Foods to Avoid

Tuna- contains a high level of mercury which can cause some birth defects if consumed a lot of.

Foods high in sugar- Junk food and processed foods have no source of nutrients for your baby. Also in older woman high sugar food can cause gestational diabetes.

Alcohol-will decrease your fertility and could cause defects with your baby should you get pregnant.

Coffee- decreases your fertility and may take you longer to conceive because of the caffeine in it. That is if you consume 300mg or more a day.

Personal Experience- When being pregnant with my son, I drank a lot of coffee and a lot of pop, this caused my blood pressure to decrease and blood sugar to decrease as well believe it or not. I was told to eat more protein foods such as peanut butter and gram crackers and to eat every few hours, and drink water and orange juice. I didn't have any more problems once I changed how much I consumed of the sugar and caffeine and started to eat and drink healthier. I will tell you it is better to change your diet before pregnancy because the cravings can be unbearable and hard to resist once you are use to eating that way!
