Preschool Art Activities for the Color Green

Teach your preschool students about the color yellow, and have fun doing so with these easy to prepare and inexpensive art projects for preschool and homeschool students.

Green Grass Picture Give students a wide enough strip of green paper that they can't cut through it in one cut of their scissors. Teach them how to make grass by cutting the paper into a fringe. Let them glue their grass onto the bottom of a blue piece of paper. They can draw people, animals, or flowers on their grass.

Yellow and Blue make Green Collage Give each child a piece of yellow paper and a piece of blue tissue paper. Let them tear up the blue tissue paper and glue the pieces to the yellow paper. Green spots will appear where they used glue to attach the two papers.
Green Turtles Cut a turtle shape out of green construction paper. Give students googly eyes to attach to the turtles' faces. Let them decorate the turtles' shells with green button, paper scraps in different shades of green, green glitter, and scraps of green cellophane.

Green Finger PaintingGive your students a dab of blue paint on one side of a long piece of paper, a dab of yellow on the other side of the paper, and a dab of each color in the middle. Let them spread the blue paint out into a shape, then wipe their fingers on a paper towel and do the same with the yellow paint. Next instruct them to mix the two colors in the middle to make a shape and ask them what color blue and yellow make together. Green, of course!

Magic Green on Green Drawing Have students use their green crayons to make a design or drawing on a piece of green construction paper. Thin some white tempera paint with water and let students use the paint to brush over their drawings. Their drawings will stand out immediately against the lighter backdrop.

Shades of GreenPut a little green paint in several empty cups. Add a little white paint to each cup, with each cup receiving a little more white than the last. Let your students mix up the paint in their cups and compare the different shade of green they created. Use the paint to make green paintings.

Green TelescopesMake green tinted telescopes by covering a paper towel tube with green construction paper. Then wrap a green piece of cellophane around the end of the tube with a rubber band. Let the children look around them through their green telescopes.
