Preschool Art Projects for the Color White

Teach your preschool students about the color blue, and have fun doing so with these easy to prepare and inexpensive art projects for preschool and homeschool students.

White Paint

Demonstrate how white lightens the shade of other colors with this simple art project. Give each student a long piece of white paper and let them choose three colors. Place two small dabs of each color on their paper, one near the top and one near the bottom. Add a dab of white paint to the bottom dots of paint. Let them spread out the top dots of paint into circles. Then let them mix the bottom colors with the white paint to show the lighter shade of the color.

3-D White Collage

Give students a white piece of construction paper or cardstock, Give them a variety of white items, including cotton balls, cotton swabs, white yarn, white scraps of fabric, lace, rice, coarse salt, navy beans, and white packing peanuts. Let students choose items to glue on their paper.

White Clouds on a Blue Sky

Give students a blue piece of construction paper. Give students white cotton balls to make white cloud shapes in the blue sky.

White Swirling Painting

Cut a piece of dark colored paper to fit inside of a shoe box. Dip a couple of marbles in white paint. Put the marbles into the box and place the lid on the box. Let the students rock the box back and forth, rolling the marbles inside. When they open the box, they will have a neat swirly white pattern. Sprinkle coarse salt or clear glitter on the picture while it is still wet.

White Sheep

Cut out a sheep shape from white paper. Have students glue on googly eyes and cotton balls for the wool.

White Cloud Mobile

Help students cut white cloud shapes out of cardstock and punch hole in the top. Using string, tie the clouds to a coat hanger and hang from the ceiling of the classroom.

White Sheep Lacing card

Cut an sheep shape out of white cardstock for each child and punch holes around the edge in ½ to 1 inch intervals. Tape a long piece of white yarn to the back of the sheep and tape the loose end of yarn to make a "needle." Show students how to lace around the edges of their sheep.

Sugar Cube Sculptures

Give students a small pile of sugar cubes and a small piece of cardstock and a bottle of glue. Let students stack and glue their sugar cubes to create a sculpture.
