To get started, it is important to focus on the supplies that you will need. Of course, the preschool craft supplies needed will all depend on how "extravagant," you want your hats to be. With that being said, below are a few supplies that you should consider using.
* Foam Bowls (Larger Sizes Work the Best)
* Kids Paint
* Paint Brushes
* Newspapers
* Glue
* Pipe Cleaners
* Foam Stickers or Cutouts
* Pom-Poms
* Craft Feathers
As previously stated, the preschool craft supplies that you will need will all depend on what you and your child want your foam bowl hats to look like. For instance, your child may be fine with simply painting their foam bowls and calling it good enough. However, if you would like to take full advantage of this fun preschool craft project, the ideas outlined below may provide you with guidance.
No matter what the end result, you will want to start with painting the foam bowl. Kids paint works the best and it should be safe for your child to use. To reduce the mess, you will want to put down newspapers or paper towels first.
Once your child has painted their foam bowl and once that painted has dried, the real fun can begin. To make a fun, yet silly hat, your child may want to insert pipe cleaners into their bowl. You can then help them by attaching pom-poms to those pipe cleaners with glue. Just be sure to tape the cleaners from the inside of the bowl, as you will not want them to poke your child in the head when they wear their new hat.
Your child can also take their painted foam bowl and attach stickers to it. Personally speaking, we have found the foam stickers to work the best. For extra fun with this preschool craft project, you may want to purchase the traditional foam shapes and have your child glue them on their hat themselves.
Feathers are another preschool craft supply that can be added to your child's foam bowl hat. When taking this approach, they have so many options. A feather or two can be added in the back, to the above mentioned foam bowl hat ideas, or they can fill their hat with feathers. It may also be a wise idea to tape the end of features from the inside of the hat, just in case.
The above mentioned ways are just a few of the many ways that you can go about making foam bowl hats with your toddler or preschooler. Although these suggestions are ideal for this preschool craft project, you can also just wait and see what your child is able to create on their own.
