Fill your preschool reading center not only with books about butterflies, but also with books about other insects and flower gardens.
Snack for Preschool Lesson Plan: Butterflies
Serve your preschool students colorful fruits and vegetables that are the colors of butterflies. For example:
-oranges
-bananas
-strawberries
-blueberries
-red, orange and yellow peppers
Use this opportunity to show your preschool students pictures of different varieties of butterflies from all over the world. Talk about the different colors of the butterflies. Point to a picture of blue butterfly and ask if any of the students are eating something blue.

Fine Motor Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Butterflies
Prepare a felt board activity of a yellow butterfly body and several small shapes cut from different colors of felt pieces. Let your preschool students take turns picking up the small shapes and placing them on the yellow butterflies.
Gross Motor Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Butterflies
Give each of your preschool students colorful scarves to drape around their shoulders. Play some classical music and let your students "fly, float and soar" like butterflies! This activity is especially fun outdoors.
Art Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Butterflies
Have your preschool students cut out two heart shapes from white construction paper. Instruct them to glue the bottom ends of the hearts together. Now they have butterfly wings! Let your students glue two brightly colored pieces of pipe cleaner on as butterfly antennae. Now let your students either paint the butterflies with water color paints or color them with markers or crayons. When they have finished decorating their butterflies, let your preschool students glue two googly eyes on their butterflies.

Pre-math Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Butterflies
Set out the letters b, u, t, t, e, r, f, l, y that you have previously cut from felt or laminated construction paper. Put out an example of the word butterfly for your students to use. Have them set out the letters to spell the word butterfly. Instruct your preschool students to count the number of letters in the word butterfly. Now have your preschool students count out nine butterfly shapes to set beneath the nine lettered word.
Pre-writing Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Butterflies
For younger students, provide sheets of paper with the letters B and b lightly printed on them. Have the children trace the letters. do the same with the number 9.
For older students, provide an example of the letters B and b and the number 9. Have the students practice writing the letters and number freehand.
