Gross Motor Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Cats

I'm a Cat!: With their cat ear headbands on, let your students crawl on the floor like cats, pretend to sharpen their claws on the furniture, rush across the floor on all fours like cats chasing mice and any other cat type activities you and they can think of.

Three Little Kittens: Have your preschool students act out the nursery rhyme The Three Little Kittens.

Art Center Activity for Preschool Lesson Plan: Cats

Orange Tabby Paintings: Cut out cat shapes from white paper. Let your preschool students tape these up at the easel and then paint them with orange paint. Have them glue on a googly eye, as well, if they like. Another option is to have your preschool students finger paint the cat shapes with orange paint.

Songs/Finger Plays for Preschool Lesson Plan: Cats

Cat songs and finger plays can be found here.

Pre-math Center Activity for Preschool Lesson Plan: Cats

The number for this theme is 3. There are 3 letters in the word cat. Cut out the letters c, a, t from both orange felt and orange construction paper. Laminate the construction paper letters. Also, cut out 3 cat shapes from orange felt and from orange construction paper. Again, laminate the construction paper cat shapes. Set out an example of the word cat, on the felt board and on a table or floor. At the felt board, have your preschoolers spell out the word cat with the felt letters. Then have them count out 3 cats and place them beneath the word cat. Another student can be working with the construction paper letters at the same time.

Pre-writing Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Cats

For younger students, provide sheets of paper with the letters C and c lightly printed on them. Have the children trace the letters. Do the same with the number 3.

For older students, provide an example of the letters C and c and the number 3. Have the students practice writing the letters and number freehand.

Write the word cat on your preschool classroom's white board. Let your students practice writing the word cat on the white board with orange dry erase markers.
