Art Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Diamond
Kites: Make diamond shaped kites! Have your preschool students cut a large diamond shape from construction paper. Now have them cut several more diamond from construction paper of different colors and then glue them to the large diamond. Attach a length of yarn to the bottom of the diamond. Tie a couple of strips of ribbon to the kite's tail. Now go fly your kites!
Sparkling diamonds: Let your preschool students finger paint diamond shapes with white paint. While the paint is still wet, have them sprinkle silver glitter on the diamond shapes.
Potato prints: Peel potatoes and cut them in half. Carve diamond shapes into the bottoms of the halves. Let your preschool students dip the potato halves in paint and make diamond prints on construction paper.
Diamond ornament: Provide your preschool students with diamond templates cut from poster board. Let them trace diamonds onto brightly colored sheets of construction paper. Have them cut the diamonds out and decorate them with sequins and glitter. Use a hole punch at the top of the diamonds. Give your students lengths of yarn to lace through the holes and tie. Now they have beautiful diamond ornaments to hang up at the holidays.
Song/Finger Play for Preschool Lesson Plan: Diamond
Here is an original children's song for your square theme. I release it into the public domain, so use it freely. It is sung to the tune of Ten Little Indians.
Little Diamonds
One little, two little, three little diamonds,
Four little, five little, six little diamonds,
Seven little, eight little, nine little diamonds,
Ten little diamonds sparkle! (make a diamond by pressing your forefingers and thumbs together)
Other Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Diamond
Gross motor: Play a game of baseball or T-ball outside. Explain to your preschool students that a baseball field is called a diamond.
Sidewalk art: Take your students outside with sidewalk chalk. Instruct them to draw as many diamond as they can with the sidewalk chalk. See if they can fill an entire corner of the playground areas with diamonds!
Counting: Use diamonds to help your preschool students learn to count. Cut out several diamonds of any color from felt. Have your students roll dice, then place then count out the number of diamonds that they rolled on the dice, placing them on the flannel board as they count. You may opt to make the diamonds from laminated construction paper and use them on a table or carpet instead.
