Fine Motor Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Iguanas
To help better develop their fine motor skills, give your students a coloring page picture of an iguana. Have them cut the picture out with safety scissors. Now place an example of the word iguana on their desks. (For younger children, you can lightly trace the word iguana on the iguana picture numerous times.) Have your preschool students write (or trace) the word iguana several times with a green marker, crayon or pencil on the iguana cut out.
Gross Motor Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Iguanas
Lead your students in an iguana walk around the classroom. Get down on all fours, slowly strolling like an iguana. Now dart across the room on all fours like an iguana might if he were frightened.
Make an obstacle course for your preschool students to go through on all fours like an iguana.
Art Center Activity for Preschool Lesson Plan: Iguanas
Post several photos of iguanas up in your classroom. If possible, bring in a live iguana in an aquarium for your preschool students to observe. Let your preschool students paint an iguana with water color paints. You can let them use a coloring page to paint, but I would suggest allowing your students to express their own creative geniuses by painting an iguana portrait freehand.
Songs/Finger Plays for Preschool Lesson Plan: Iguanas
Iguana songs and finger plays are in short supply. Here is a simple little ditty that I release into the public domain. Sing it to the tune of Ten Little Indians.
One little, two little,
Three little iguanas.
Four little, five little,
Six little iguanas.
Seven little, eight little,
Nine little iguanas.
Ten little iguanas are green!
Pre-math Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Iguanas
The word iguana has six letters. Cut the letters i, g, u, a, n, a from green felt. Let your preschool students first place the letters to the word iguana on the felt board in the correct order. It would be good to have another set of letters already placed on the felt board for your students to use as a guide. After they have correctly put up the word iguana, have your preschool students count the letters in the word. Now give them several iguana shapes cut from green felt. Instruct your students to count out six iguana shapes and place them on the flannel board.
Pre-writing Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Iguanas
For younger students, provide sheets of paper with the letters I and i lightly printed on them. Have the children trace the letters. do the same with the number 6.
For older students, provide an example of the letters I and i and the number 6. Have the students practice writing the letters and number freehand.
Write the word iguana on your preschool classroom's white board with a green dry erase marker. Let your students practice writing the word iguana on the white board with green dry erase markers.
