Serve your students foods that land snails eat, such as:
-romaine lettuce
-apples
-carrots

Letter: Ss for snail
Number: 1 for the 1 home that a snail carries on its back
Shape: circle
Color: brown
Fine Motor Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Snails
Lightly draw a template of a spiral on a sheet of paper. Snail shells often have spiral designs. Make several copies of the template. Let your preschool students trace the spiral with a brown crayon or brown marker. Also, let your preschool students cut along the spiral with safety scissors.
Encourage your preschool students to draw spirals freehand.
Gross Motor Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Snails
Have fun with your preschool students by moving in slow motion like a snail.
Play Red Light, Green Light, only in slow motion. The last person to make it to the finish line wins!
Art Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Snails
Let your preschool students cut large circles from white construction paper. Have them cut a long oval from brown construction paper for a snail's head. Instruct your students to glue the brown oval to the bottom of their white circle. Let your preschool students glue googly eyes on the snail heads and glue small pieces of brown pipe cleaners to the tops of the snail heads for tentacles. Now let your preschool students decorate the circle (snail shell) as they wish with crayons and markers.
Songs/Finger Plays for Preschool Lesson Plan: Snails
Songs and finger plays celebrating snails are few and far between. Here I offer a simple little ditty that I wrote. I release it into the public domain for free use. Sing to the tune of Ten Little Indians.
One little, two little,
Three little snails.
Four little, five little,
Six little snails.
Seven little, eight little,
Nine little snails.
Ten little snails are so poky!
Pre-math Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Snails
Cut out several circles from different colors of felt or construction paper. Cut the circles in half. Let your preschool students match the half circles according to color. Tell them that 2 half circles equal 1 circle.
Pre-writing Center Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Snails
For younger students, provide sheets of paper with the letters S and s lightly printed on them. Have the children trace the letters. do the same with the number 1.
For older students, provide an example of the letters S and s and the number 1. Have the students practice writing the letters and number freehand.
Write the word snail on your preschool classroom's white board. Let your students practice writing the snail beneath you example on the white board with brown dry erase markers.
