Let each student choose a fabric scrap to glue on as a bed spread.

Song/Finger Playfor Preschool Lesson Plan: Rectangle

Here is an original children's song for your square theme. I release it into the public domain, so use it freely. It is sung to the tune of Ten Little Indians.

Little Rectangles

One little, two little, three little rectangles,

Four little, five little, six little rectangles,

Seven little, eight little, nine little rectangles,

Ten little rectangles tower! (draw an upright rectangle in the air with your forefinger)

Other Activities for Preschool Lesson Plan: Rectangle

Small, medium, large: Teach your students these size concepts with rectangles. Give each of your students a sheet of construction paper on which you have printed one small rectangle, one medium rectangle and one large rectangle. Have your students cut the rectangles out. Now have them glue the rectangles onto a sheet of paper in this order: small, medium, large. Write the words small, medium and large beneath or on the appropriately sized shape.

Shape search: Design a shape search by drawing circles, squares, ovals, stars, hearts and rectangles on a sheet of paper. Have your students circle all of the rectangles that they find.

Counting: Use rectangles to help your preschool students learn to count. Cut out several rectangles of any color from felt. Have your students roll dice, then place then count out the number of rectangles that they rolled on the dice, placing them on the flannel board as they count. You may opt to make the rectangles from laminated construction paper and use them on a table or carpet instead.
