Prescriptions for Acne

Brian Neese
For those who do not get the results they would like to receive from over-the-counter acne medications, it can be a long and frustrating road to acne relief. Unfortunately there are many different prescription medications for acne with different methods of effectiveness. Some acne sufferers will be exposed to different kinds of medications in the months and even years of testing out these medications. However, there are many cutting-edge acne treatments which are being developed.

If at first you are unresponsive or your condition worsens from over-the-counter acne medications, see your doctor or dermatologist. Prescription-strength cleansers, antibiotics, and topical options will be given to you in order to see what might work for your skin. Many people find the results they are looking for after the usual initial acne medications, such as Retin-A and benzoyl peroxide medications. Most of these medications do not pose side effects that will affect you greatly; sufferers should not be worried about these.

For others extensive trial-and-error must inevitably take place, although this too is not to be too troubling for sufferers. For some people, it is important to understand the dynamics of their skin, and unfortunately it may take many tries to find something that will provide results or at least be effective in controlling the acne. Many new products are being developed today: for example, Evoclin has recently been developed as a topical antibiotic foam. As a topical form of Clindamycin, this enables sufferers to use this type of medication without taking pills everyday.

In light of the advances and availability of medications in regards to acne, sufferers should not be troubled about getting the results they want for their skin. Their dermatologist can put them on a multi-leveled program of cleansers, antibiotics, and topical medications which will inevitably be effective for their acne. Those unresponsive to over-the-counter medications should immediately see their doctor or dermatologist in order to find out for themselves how effective these treatment options will be for their acne.
