President Ahmadinejad of Iran to Be Impeached?

The people of Iran have been infuriated since their votes were not counted in the last election for the president. There have been massive, ongoing street protests. And now the green movement, that has fought bitterly against Ahmadinejad may soon have a happy day if he is impeached.

A Petition to Impeach is Underway

A petition is now circulating among lawmakers in Iran to get signatures to start action to impeach the President Ahmadinejad, reports the Daily Beast.

Thus far 40 signatures have been obtained. A total of 74 signatures is needed to start the impeachment process. It may not be long until the president of Iran is booted out of the leadership of this strife filled country. However, in order to impeach President Ahmadinejad, the Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei must approve the plan.

Will President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad soon be sitting in one of the prisons where he has been so fond of sending dissidents and journalists who questioned his authority? Many people in Iran would love to see just such a scenario become reality.

Has President Ahmadinejad Broken the Law?

The parliament of Iran has already attempted to impeach Ahmadinejad. Alas, this first attempt at impeachment was not successful. President Ahmadinejad is accused of breaking the law via "illegally trading 76.5 million barrels of oil valued at approximately $9 billion and withdrawing nearly %600 million from Iran's foreign reserve fund without parliamentary approval," reports the Daily Beast.

President Ahmadinejad has allegedly violated 14 laws, typically by skipping the step of obtaining approval of the legislature, notes the Wall Street Journal. "The president and his cabinet must be held accountable in front of the parliament. A lack of transparency and the accumulation of legal violations by the government is harming the regime."

Life Struggles for the People of Iran

The people of Iran continue to revolt over the stolen election and also over the rising costs of foods, supplies and electricity. Despite that, President Ahmadinejad is attempting to terminate long-standing government subsidies for food. This would have a dire impact on the ability of the people of Iran to maintain a decent standard of living. Costs for every day food items could grow so high as to be out of the reach of most people.

If an impeachment occurs in Iran, it will be the first time in history, notes the Wall Street Journal. Will the Islamic Republic of Iran impeach a president for the first time ever? It seems long overdue. President Ahmadinejad denies the truth, brings misery to the people of Iran and his aggressive actions about nuclear weapons bring scorn from the world and condemnation from the United Nations.

Iran has shown the world the evil that occurs when a Machiavellian dictator reigns over a country. It is tragic that President Ahmadinejad has been allowed for so long to rip Iran apart. He is immoral and he has caused the death of many innocent people in Iran.
