President Obama has always said that our current times will be the most difficult of our lives, but that we can get through this, IF we hold on to the realization that everyone in this country has real power. We cannot sit idly by in these times, and allow everything we have enjoyed since the end of World War II to slip away from the common of us and into the hands of a few rich and powerful. When a leader who can inspire the common people to stand up to the control of the rich and greedy, the rich and greedy will create great opposition and fear. They send out their messengers to inspire fear and chaos to the mobs. They prey on the weakness of quick action, anger and fear.
The Nobel panel presented Barack Obama with the Nobel Peace Prize because he is one of the most proactive world leaders of goodwill of our time, and they felt that it needed to be proclaimed as such. This award is how those of the Nobel panel, who's mission statement is about peace in our world, see the vision of our President as one of peace, and not of war.
In his acceptance speech of the award, President Obama mainly spoke of the struggle of violence and peace and how it is the responsibility of mankind to promote peace and love and that violence and war are only used to stop those who would initiate oppression and violence on the helpless. That is the reason why he banned further torture methods and closed Guantanamo Bay, as they are not the ideals that the United States of America stands for, but rather that it stands for the ideals written in the Geneva Convention.
While those will preach about using any measures to protect our country, even at the expense of what it stands for, President Obama remains true to the foundations of what has made our country the greatest and an inspiration to the world. Our country has been losing respect of the world over recent times and as inhabitants of the world, being the focus of inspiration to the other countries is what we have always been about.
There has been a great effort by some, to turn our country into one of selfishness and self centeredness, rather than a beacon of light of freedom and an example of what humanity is capable of, at its best. Our military in Afghanistan and Iraq are not there to promote violence and wage war, but to promote freedom and to help the citizens of those countries realize what life can be like. The soldier is trying to help human beings live a life of freedom and happiness and to stop those who would take it from them. Again, looking at the larger picture of balance of helping others and helping those in our own country in hard times, President Obama is not claiming to wage an endless 100 year war to prove our might, but to help a country organize its own power and pursuit of freedom of its citizens and then leave that government and its people to find the reason within themselves to hold onto that freedom, as we do.
Barack Obama will be one of the most remembered leaders of our world for knowing and believing that humankind is more good than evil and IF we remember that, and "do unto others as you would have others do unto you," we are then moving toward progression of a better world, for our children.
Do not listen to only this article. Do not listen to only one or a few sources of information about our world. Do you own research, read and listen to as many sources as possible. Make your own decisions and follow your heart and passions and make sure that you keep the broadest of perspectives.
As a personal note, I thought long about whether or not publish this article, as I know how quickly, in these times of instant negative reaction, which has become part of our culture, it will bring forth such comments. My final thought is that in spite of such reactions, there needs to be more said from those of us who support the man that we voted for, not because we are of a certain political party, but because we see in him the inspiration of what great possibilities we and our children can have because of his ideals. This is especially so, as I have had such great fear for where our country has been headed for the last decade, and that the actions taken during them will have terrible consequences for our children over the next 100 years, IF it were not for the fact that, as history shows, we spoke up during the last election. President Obama was elected in spite of all that was thrown against him for the simple fact that the majority of Americans did not stay silent this time, but spoke loudly as we saw our best chance to climb out of all that happened during the darkest decade of this new century.
Better times are ahead because we were not silent and we need to insure that the few do not take control back for themselves once again. That is why I believe the Noble panel awarded the Peace Prize to Barack Obama and why, in the end, I knew I had to publish this article.

Post a CommentExcellent work, David. :-)
very well written, thanks
I'm not so worried about the haves and have nots, or the power mongers. Like Mr. President said - we are all in this together. Great article, David.
He has a lot to do to prove himself yet, it is early days and that was probably why there was so much opposition to him being a recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Good article though
Thanks for having the guts to post this... when I look at all the hate-filled postings about Pres. Obama that come up on the page with this.
