President Bush Addrtesses the Nation on His Plan to Increase Troops

Tonight, on January 10, 2007 President Bush addressed the nation once again with his plan to bring victory and peace to Iraq. In his speech President Bush did not give specifics but did say that troops will be increased in Iraq. These troops will most likely come from the home reserves in the U.S. army from airborne and combat units.

President Bush remained stoic as usual and in his plan he did mention the counter proposals which he of course rejected in his speech. He mentioned the plans to put U.S. troops on the Iraqi border to prevent Al Queda and terrorists from coming into the country. President Bush also mentioned the Democratic plan of gradually withdrawing troops from the nation. Bush rejected both plans and claimed that such a move would increase terrorist activity and violence in the region, leading to a downfall of the Iraqi infrastructure and more time those U.S. troops would have to spend in the region.

President Bush mentioned the presence of the Al Queda terrorists which are not a main threat in the region. He also mentioned Turkey and American allies in his speech but that is completely irrelevant as the U.S. has lost all international support in the war in Iraq.

President Bush stated that troop levels must be increased in order to win this war. However, Bush gave no evidence at all that an increase in troop levels would win the war and finally brings American troops back home. Already there are 120,000 troops in the country.

A major part of President Bush's plan is to have Iraqi security forces working side by side American troops so that Iraqi forces can patrol their own country. In President Bush's speech, he stated that the Iraqi leadership has pledged to strengthen their security force with additional man power. In Bush's speech, he also stated that he aimed for an increase in American troops and thanked the nation and the families of soldiers in Iraq for dealing with the loss of their family members and absence of them.

Finally, President Bush stated that America must succeed in the region and serve as a landmark for the Middle East region not to harbor terrorists. President Bush mentioned Lebanon and Syria as two countries that must not harbor terrorists and put the leaders of those two nations on alert. President Bush also mentioned his hope for a bipartisan committee of advisors from the Senate and mentioned Joe Lieberman, a Democratic Senator who won the election as an Independent because he supports many of President Bush's goals.

The Democratic leadership prepared a response to President Bush's speech. It will now be up to the Senate to ratify Bush's new plan to send more troops into the region.
