President Donald Trump?

President Donald Trump? Could we actually be on the verge of a Trump Republican campaign? According to this story on FOX News, Trump says he'll make a decision in June on whether he will run for President of the United States. The story actually points to the fact that Trump has tested out well so far-trailing fellow Republicans by just a few percentage points in early polls.

Could this mean the business tycoon and reality television star could be on the verge of a run for the 2012 Presidential nod? It's an interesting story to think about. So far, there doesn't seem to be any serious movement that would point toward such a run. But there is the potential that some serious early poll momentum could help make his decision a bit easier. If Trump continues to do well in polls, perhaps he will take a shot in his run for the ultimate position of power. Can you imagine "The Donald" sitting behind the Presidential desk?

What would be the most positive factor if Trump was voted into office? There are too many variables for the office to narrow it down to just a few that Trump could or wouldn't be successful at. But it's fun to think about the potential of having someone in office who is so incredibly popular(in a good or bad way.) Whether you like or hate Trump, the guy is definitely well known. His stint on "The Celebrity Apprentice" and "The Apprentice" on NBC has certainly made more people aware of just who he is and his appetite for business.

So what could Donald bring to the Presidential office? Trump has a business acumen that perhaps none of our recent previous Presidents could bring to the table. Trump has enjoyed extreme success and failure-which would bring a wide range of opinion to the office. His ability to watch the mighty dollar would put him in a very good Republican stronghold come time for the primary. At the end of the day, it wouldn't be about the fact that Trump would make a good President-it would be about the fact of whether he could gain enough popular votes to be a contender for the role.

I think many people would be extremely excited to see somebody with a different mindset take that seat in the White House. Maybe that's why Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronald Reagan and Jesse Ventura have landed in similar roles. Does that mean a person with this much mass appeal is a landslide winner? The jury is definitely still out on that and perhaps that will ultimately help Trump decide if the run is something he wants to tackle.

There will be many who think of the Donald Trump run for President as a joke. But the guy has rock solid credentials even though he is not a career politician. The fact that he doesn't have a history in politics might be his single best advantage-that or his experience on television where he fires someone on a weekly basis.
The entire thought of Trump running for President is intriguing to say the least. I believe the guy would have potential to win the primary if he chooses to go that route. The Republican candidates just aren't that strong for the 2012 election. The irony is that there is a strong chance that a Republican will win the Presidential election just because Americans aren't completely satisfied with Barack Obama. Americans probably want to move in a different direction after what will have been four more years of a country struggling. More Republicans will head to the polls even if an incredibly unpopular candidate wins the primary. Donald Trump wouldn't certainly fall into that category. His name recognition alone would be worth many votes.

That's what makes Trump a viable candidate if he does decide to make a run for President. He has the mass appeal and I believe "The Celebrity Apprentice" has softened his image from what once might have been a crude businessman to a guy who believes in helping charities. It's an unusual fit and it would certainly be historic if Trump decided to toss his name into the ring. But it wouldn't be the first time a well known celebrity-albeit a business man, opted to run for office. It also wouldn't be the first time that such a person would have a rock solid chance to win because of general discontent about the direction our country is headed. The fact that Trump would even have the chance to win in such a case is a sad commentary on how Americans currently feel about politicians. I believe we all want someone who has our best interest at heart to run for office and change the current trend of backward-ism. Is Trump the guy to do that? Who really knows-but it's fun to speculate on having someone other than a career politician take a stab at it.

Maybe Trump is stubborn enough to be the guy who can prompt change. It's clear he wants things done his way.
Maybe he could intimidate, pressure or corral our politicians into finally thinking as one body instead of bickering over legislation and never getting anything done. For that reason, I kind of hope Trump runs for President of the United States. If anything, his ability to get votes without any political experience will illuminate just how much Americans feel our politicians have strayed from the reality of the everyday person. America just might rather choose an extremely wealthy billionaire to run our country over a career politician for that reason. The irony is that money wouldn't really buy Trump the seat if that's the case. In the end, it just might be his popularity. President Trump, anyone?
