President George W. Bush Turns a Blind Eye to the Economy

Meaghan Durance
President Bush knocks the report by the Federal Reserve off the air, then takes the airwaves to tell the American people there is nothing to fret. Is the President lying to us? Or is he oblivious to the reality as it is. He tells us to remain calm as people line sidewalks in wait to remove their money from the bank. Vacations are being cancelled. Even simple trips to the grocery store are getting put off because of fuel prices. Bush says, "People know whether they can drive more or less. People know how to balance their checkbook". My vote is that he is oblivious to reality. Especially with a statement like that. He truly does not have a clue as to what we as a nation are dealing with. He has no idea what the working people of this country have had to give up because of the rise in fuel and food. He has spent his life reaching into a golden pocket for all he needs, while the rest of us struggle to survive.

And now, here we are changing our daily and vacationing plans to fit the cost of fuel into our otherwise busy, wonderful lives. President Bush shut down a report by those who planned to warn us that the economy was increasingly getting worse, bad enough to take heed of what we may be about to lose. As only one American family, we have lost much of what we worked so hard to achieve over the years. And now we are down to our home. Fighting tooth and nail to keep our dream alive, our dream that we have lived at for more than twenty years.

But George W. Bush does not know what it means to work hard for what you want in life. George W. Bush does not know what it means to juggle bills or give up some material possessions in order to keep others. George W. Bush does not know what it feels like when the juggling of bills and selling of hard earned possessions does not work anymore and losing the fight begins to take effect.

Oblivious? Yes, our commander in chief, our leader of the "free" world, our President of the United States has no clue what it is to work so hard for what you have, only to watch it all fade into the history of your lives. Bush has no idea what his country, his people are truly enduring. We are quickly falling into what the government is calling a "recession", but what I call a "depression".

Is President George W. Bush creating a last "hurrah" in retaliation for all the negative publicity he has earned? Or is he just so unintuned to the people and the country he is "leading" that he truly believes everything is fine with the economy. There is nothing to "fret". It's our fault for not doing a better job of "balancing our checkbooks". Our hole has been dug so deep that it will take a miracle or a lot of time to get out of it. Unfortunately, the person who is holding the shovel is President George W. Bush.

The reality of it is that we are in the dark to what is really happening. I was writing about Bush seeing things that are NOT reality. He has no clue what is happening in his own country. The man was born and raised with a bottomless pocket. He has never had to deal with finding affordable health insurance. He has never had to deal with finding a job that will support his family. He has never had to deal with the everyday stresses of life. I realize most of those who lead or assist in leading our country have been blessed most of their lives without having to deal with REALITY, but that should not be overlooked, the reality of working very hard your entire life only to learn you have lost everything, like those who have lost their homes to foreclosures, and their jobs to layoffs. The reality is that there is a recession or what ever you want to call it. Bush, I "feel", along with thousands of others, is the worst president we have ever had due to his lack of touch with reality

Your points demonstrate a complete lack of understanding as to the job of a President. Your article blames Bush for the problems and blames him for not fixing them. Unemployment is low, taxes are low, WE ARE NOT IN A RECESSION, at least according to the time honored formula the gov't uses (2 successive quarters of GDP decline) and are you ignoring the news that quarter before last the econ. grew .9% and 1.9% last quarter. That is 5.6% GDP GROWTH. Feelings are not reality, and therein lies the issue. Remember before the '04 election? Remember Dem mantra: "the worst economy since Hoover!" As soon as the Dems lost the election we never heard that again. Hmmmm... wonder why? It couldn't be because it was an election tactic and had no reality to it? This ain't about "feelings." It is about reality, so look at the NUMBERS and then repeat your article's point. Maybe the first time was just an unawareness on your part. If you check the numbers I'm sure you'll issue a correction, right?
