Ford was a frugal and caring President who believed in trimming the fat off of the government. On the day of his inauguration he walked instead of riding in the traditional limo he walked the route. He reduced the white house staff by 1/3 and made effort to improve the quality of the government on less. In his inauguration speech he so powerful said," Our commitment to human rights must be absolute, our laws fair, our natural beauty preserved, the powerful must not persecute the weak, and human dignity must be enhanced."
Carter made campaign promises to reduce unemployment, speed economic growth, and restrain prices. He achieved a balanced budget by the end of his first year and manage to accomplish his goals. He was a hard working president always working out solutions that benefited the people and their environment. He allowed Vietnam Vets to come home to a place that had forgotten them in a presidential pardon. His words and actions were from the heart and you could tell by the way he presented himself. He neglected his own personal comfort and the expenses that most president accrue and was in touch with the people. On a March 16th business trip he stayed at a private home instead of an expensive hotel room.
During the energy crisis he implored citizens to wear a sweater and keep there temptures regulated. He implored the United Nation to improve its humanitarian funding and said the world body had allowed " it's human rights machinery to be ignored and politicized." He was right and still today governments use their human right agenda's to barter with other countries for their own benefit. If we all had Carter's heart and ambition we could change the world.
Carter did his best to improve where needed and trim the White House to the necessities. Even as he builds the next house for Habitat for Humanity, our government tears down the improvements that he made and legislation that he produced. Whether we or our environment survives from this unforgiving destruction, we will never know. Because balance is important and President Carter knows that in more than one way.

Post a CommentPresident Carter, as usual the voice of reason in an unreasonable world, has once again spoken the truth! Of course the moronic congressman Wilson was fueled by racism. And our President knows it, but because the right wing nut cases who can't handle the truth, he will act like its not. I appreciate the social progress that President Carter possessed during his presidency, after, and currently. We need dialogue and honesty, not the damaging falsity that has lead to so much destruction. Wilson needs to stand before Congress and apologize, vehemently, for his childlike behavior. And America needs to wake up and begin talking about its problems, instead of hiding them away like. . .children
