CBS News reported Emanuel's leaving included a "heartfelt send-off" from the White House. It will be remembered due to the high profile good bye with the cabinet members and President. Emanuel stepped down on Friday to campaign in Chicago as Mayor with plans to be backed by the President himself.
During his time with the president Emanuel's personality seemed surly which doesn't help his image in the public eye of the ChicagoLand residents. As a resident in one of the Chicago suburbs Emanuel will not be getting my vote. From my perspective his farewell send off from the White House was not only manipulative but a media grabbing front.
The reason being? Though Emanuel or the President did not mention the word "mayor" the whispers have been circulating and the hoopla created by this send off is a sign that this is a platform he will be using to get a jump start on his campaign. With the support or the backing of Obama it sends the message that he's a shoe-in as a candidate in the race for Mayor.
The sheer fact that he's receiving a thumbs up from the President who has yet to produce anything this term does not gain my confidence. What makes it worse is the fact that Emanuel sat side-by-side the President during the worst economic time of my life. As the Chief of Staff Emanuel has been in cahoots with the president during a time of ridiculous government spending and the reduction of freedoms and protection of the American people.
Obama has stated that Emanuel will be a good candidate for the city but in essence what did the Chief of Staff do while under the direction of President Obama? During Emanuel's stint in office he supported the President to make decisions that's causing our nation to implode from within. From this viewpoint I will not be voting for Emanuel as mayor; no matter how hard he campaigns on the streets of Chicago or whether he has the backing of Obama.
