President Obama Better Economy but Poll Numbers Are Slipping

Renee Brown
There is mounting evidences that the controversial $787 billion stimulus achieving its goal, shortening the recession. Economists are saying the bill better known as the American Recovery and Reconstruction Act has boosted the GDP by 2-3% in the second and third quarter of this year into a potential growth. This should have been good news for the President right?

President Obama poll numbers dropped 15% as Americans are worried about government spending on Healthcare Reform Plan: Obama fought hard against opposing Republican to push the bill through to congress as one of his first legislative acts. Polls show American disapproval of the Stimulus bill, 51% of American thinks the government need to spend less money while 44% thought the government did not spend enough. The stimulus is hurting the President despite how much it's helping the country.

The unemployment rate is still at 9.7%, jobs always trail behind in economy rebounds. But the unemployment rate is higher than economist expected, even in a worst case scenario forecasted by the Treasury department's "stress test" last spring.

The $88 billion dollars the government has infused into the economy would buy President Obama some good will; at least with local and state politicians, including those who opposed the stimulus but did not mind taking some stimulus money to stabilize their local economies. Now the very core of the stimulus bill is political career killer: the program gave most of the money to the poor. Almost $28 billion given to Medicaid, $19 billion went to Unemployment benefits, $4 billion to student assistance $1 billion went to rental assistance, $62.5 billion for tax breaks and $10 billion to state and local educational bolsters

Giving money to the poor and moderate income works well in trying to stimulate the economy, poor or moderate do not save they spend and fast. Giving the money to the poor serves a dual purpose relieving hardship and stimulating the economy.

Biden is now readily defending the stimulus he states at the Brookings Institution Thanks to the recovery act, he said, "Instead of talking about the beginning of a depression, we're talking about the end of a recession, eight months after taking office."Independents are worried about the growing deficit and who is going to have to pay for the deficit. The economy is getting a boost but Obama and Biden numbers are slipping at the polls.
