President Obama Campaigns Hard in Philadelphia

The Democrats are probably going to lose on election day. They will probably lose many seats in the House and Senate, and some governorships.

The Republicans are very motivated and want to take the country back as they believe the left wing of the Democratic Party has hijacked the government and are turning America into a modern European socialist country. Republicans are likely to enjoy a tremendous turn out in November, and Democrats are more apathetic and are likely to suffer major defeats because of a lackluster turnout.

With this in mind, President Obama went to Philadelphia for the second time to rally his troops and urge Democrats to vote in November. In Pennsylvania, he wants to run up the score in Philadelphia and overcome the deficit across the state to win the governorship and retain the seat in the US Senate. Nationally he wants to use Philadelphia as a platform to rally the Democrats across the country and convince them to vote in November. Hopefully, the President can limit his losses, break even, or even win some seats in Congress in November.

The Speech

On Sunday, October 10, President Obama spoke in Philadelphia in an effort to regain the tremendous excitement of his 2008 presidential campaign. The president called the Republicans cynics and incompetent, and urged voters not to reward the Republicans by sitting out the election on November 2.

The president offered a stinging criticism of the Republicans. He accused them of exploiting the voters anger and frustration over the economy and other issues, without offering any solutions to our problems. He said the Republicans in Congress intentionally opposed the Democrats on every issue to produce a stalemate, frustrate the Democrats and reduce Democratic turnout in the November midterm elections.

The president talked about the incredible enthusiasm for his presidential campaign in 2008, and said he needs that same fired up enthusiasm in November. The speech was the second of four rallies to ignite the Democrats and persuade them to vote in November. Organizers said over 18,000 people turned out for the speech.

Familiar Themes

The president repeated some of his familiar arguments. He accused the Republicans of ruining the economy before he took office and then refusing to help the Democrats fix it. He said the Republicans left the country in a deep hole, and it will take time to climb out of it. He said Republicans want to continue a major tax cut for the wealthy even though it increases the deficit, and then have the audacity to lecture the Democrats about fiscal responsibility.

Vice President Joe Biden introduced Obama, and Democratic Senate nominee Joe Sestak also spoke. Biden was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Facing the Problem

The problem of discontent and apathy in the Democratic Party was also evident at the rally. Marc Alfarano and Justin DiPietro said there does not seem to be much urgency to vote among Democrats this November. Some Democrats do not even understand the seriousness of losing the House or the Senate to the Republicans.
