President Obama Comes to Hackensack, N.J.

Hackensack, N.J. -- It's hard to believe President Obama came to my neighborhood on Wednesday. The purpose of his visit was to stump for Governor Jon Corzine, who is in a dead heat with Republican Chris Christie for the governor's office.

I don't think Corzine would have a chance were it not for Obama supporting him. We in NJ are a bit sick of Corzine and his taxes and poor record with education. He certainly pales next to Obama, who was incredibly enthusiastic and really wowed the crowd. Obama attempted to blame all of NJ's problems on the "challenging times" that the entire country is experiencing. The fact is though, that NJ was going down the tubes before the recession and Corzine has not helped at all. It will take a lot more than the Presidents gushing praise to convince New Jerseyans that Corzine should be reelected.

On a more personal note, the traffic was very annoying in my area but I have to say that it was not nearly as bad as I expected. I think Hackensack and Teaneck did a fantastic job of hosting the President and we should do this sort of thing more often. However, I was surprised when I spoke to neighbors and friends about Obama's visit here there was not much excitement that the President was coming. Maybe it's just the people I know or maybe people are so jaded by NJ politics they can't even get excited about the President.

A scary coinciding event occurred today on the day of President Obama's visit, a man was arrested for making threats against the President. He actually worked security at Newark Liberty Airport-where Obama arrived today. It seems this man expressed these threats to a co-worker who became concerned and reported him. The police found many guns in the worker's house which were all legal but nevertheless it's unnerving to think what this guy might have done with them.

Soon we'll know if President Obama's visit was successful in clinching the governorship for Corzine. Either way it ends up, the President was in town and that certainly is a memorable event.

Very informative article, it is sad and very disturbing to see that there are many fanatical people out there who wish to do this man harm - a peace keeper of today.
