President Obama Enters Kanye West - Taylor Swift Fray

Crap Storm Here We Come

theBarefoot
ABC news released some off-the-record remarks by President Obama which included Obama vocalizing his opinion of Kanye West's interruption of Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). In his succinctly clear style, Obama summarized what everyone is thinking by saying that he thought Kanye West's actions raised him officially to jackass.

Should the President weigh in on such matters? Sure. Obama is entitled to his opinions on any topic. There's no reason he can't have an opinion about Kanye West. An opinion, by the way, which is echoed by the majority of people with any opinion on the topic. Should the President use such language? Sure. It captures and communicates a true reflection of his thoughts in a way most Americans can relate. It's not like he was delivering this message to young school children for cheese sake. Reportedly, Bo, the President's dog, did, however, overhear the comments and piddled on the carpet.

But as the President, don't expect Obama to not be the subject of criticism. If Obama thinks he was unduly criticized for having an opinion over a local arrest in Cambridge, Massachusetts, wait until the crapfest that is today's talk radio gets its microphones on this one. I caution everyone with an opinion on Obama's remark to lay low. Kanye West will respond in his own way to Obama and validate every syllable of Obama's off-the-record remarks. Let Kanye defend himself and in opening his mouth he will shoot his own foot. Any further comment by West can not possibly be out of character with his previous shenanigans.

In fact, rumors are already flying that Kanye West plans a video response to President Obama. The leaked script for the video clearly has lines where West will accuse the President with, "President Obama doesn't care about black people." West may just sample his rambling, unscripted Katrina relief promotion, edit out Mike Meyers, and over-dub the vocals to replace "Bush" with "Obama." Add a sampled soundtrack and some effects and MTV will have a video for its rotation, too. Well, that is if MTV actually played videos. They stopped playing videos somewhere around 1996. Where does MTV get the stones to hand out video awards anyway?

Once Kanye West makes it official that Obama hates black people, we can all get over the race issue that crops up every time someone disagrees with Obama's politics or policies. I, for one, am relieved to live in an America where we have a President who freely and openly admits that Kanye West is a big sack of crap. Once this exchange plays out and Obama officially hates black people, we can get on with the business of passing health care reform, raising taxes, increasing the deficit, and euthanizing kittens. We'll be able to do all these things in a racial-free zone. Hurry up, Kanye. We have work to do and you're holding up race relations in America. Please resolve this issue before Jimmy Carter opens his mouth again.

We all piddled a little bit when this tragic moment occurred.

I'd rather believe in someone who isn't afraid of what their words might do or end up.

I agree that the President has the right to his opinion and to voice it if he wants to. Kanye is an idiot and it's good that the president agree's with most of us about that.

    I'm in agreement with Snidely.

Agreed Barefoot, and I did indeed read the second page. I have no problem with Obama's words. Kayne West is a jackass, so....

And yes, I hope everyone reads the 2nd page...about time we worked on the larger issues in America - health care, taxes, etc.

Hate to admit it but I felt pain for Kanye when Jay Leno followed up by asking him what Kanye's mother would think. The guy teared up. Your ability to write with quick wit is a skill I greatly admire!

I agree -- it's great the President thinks it, and says it. Good commentary here.

Hey people always claim to want an honest politician, so Obama gave his honest opinion of Kanye. Yes, I believe Obama may hate black people ... he hates Kanye and his huge ego, that's it. ;)
