When President Barack Obama gives his State of the Union address on January 27, 2010 Americans will be eagerly awaiting to hear news about the topics on his agenda. While the exact details of his speech are still up for speculation, here are a few topics we may be hearing more about during Obama's 2010 State of the Union address.

Jobs

Can it be said enough? The issue of jobs is on everybody's mind right now. The economy is causing many people to lose their confidence and faith in many people in the government, as seen in the election of Republican Scott Brown, who won the late Democratic Senator Ted Kennedy's seat in Massachusetts over the past month -- a point heavily investigated in major newspapers like the Washington Post.

President Obama is feeling the heat from the American public about the pressing issue of job losses in this country, and he will therefore make the broad issue of jobs the key focus of his State of the Union address.

What may his solutions be? The Atlantic has discussed Obama's intentions on creating "Green" jobs -- jobs built around improving the environment through cleaner technology -- and boosting Florida's economy with a major high-speed rail project. Obama may also suggest commissioning other major public works projects to help boost the number of jobs in this country through improvements to our national road and highway infrastructure.

Healthcare Reform

With the election of Republican Scott Brown to the senate, President Obama's biggest domestic issue - health care reform - is now at even greater risk of not passing in the form that he - and many Democrats - hoped to see.

Obama will most likely use the State of the Union address as a platform to encourage swift agreements on the matter and press for the prompt passage of a health care reform package. The specific areas of health care reform that Obama will address is up for speculation, but it would be beneficial if Obama can strike a conciliatory tone on this topic and make every effort to reach out to Republicans. After all, with Scott now providing Republicans a 41st vote in the Senate, Democrats no longer have complete control of the cadence - and fate - of health care reform.

Recovery in Haiti

President Obama will no doubt take a moment to pause and reflect on the tragic losses Haiti has suffered from the massive earthquake that has virtually leveled the nation.

Obama will use the powerful stage provided by the State of the Union address to encourage the sending of further aid and donations to help in Haitian relief. Obama will probably also use the moment to encourage further participation by Americans in the Peace Corps, the American Red Cross, and in the hospitals and care facilities that dot the United States.

The War on Terror

We will be entering our tenth year fighting the War on Terror in Afghanistan come October. President Obama knows very well that he must address the ongoing situation in Afghanistan and also the war In Iraq.

During the State of the Union address, Obama will provide insight on where we stand in the War on Terror and what we must do to leave Afghanistan and Iraq in the coming years peacefully, without event, and without risking the lives and safety of Americans both here and abroad during and after our exits from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Obama will also cite the continuing risk of terrorist attacks on American soil and suggest the greater corporation of government agencies and all Americans to keep on guard during these still-risky times in which we live.
