Release of Osama Bin Laden Photos Could Pose a Risk to National Security

President Obama said photos of Osama Bin Laden's body would not be released. This decision will surely bring some criticism to President Obama. Two senators from national security stated the photos should be released according to CNN.

Republican Sen. Saxby Chambliss said "They should be made public right away. I think the question is what's the negative that could come from it? One of these days they're going to be released; it's a question of whether it be now on our terms or somebody else do it."

In a description of the photos given by Chambliss, he said, "What you would expect from somebody who's been shot in the head. It's not pretty."

During a press briefing Jay Carney said, "The Presidents priority is the safety of our citizens. President Obama was clear about his view on releasing photos and that he consulted members of the national security team." Carney also stated, "Releasing photos would be a national security risk. Our efforts are not aimed at Islam or Muslims. There is no question at all that Osama Bin Laden is dead. We had very strong confirmation this was indeed UBL. "

On one hand, people should understand President Obama's stand on this delicate issue. On another hand, people want to see for themselves that this murderer is dead. Maybe in the weeks or months to come when things settle down the President will change his mind and release the photos of Osama Bin Laden's body but until then we have to take the governments word that he is indeed dead.

The security of the American people could be more at risk if the photos were released. People are already wondering if there will be retaliation on the United States due to Osama Bin Laden and his death by US Navy Seals.

What do you think, should the photos have been released?
