President Obama Promises Funding for Adam Walsh Law: National Registry for Sex Offenders

Julia Bodeeb
John Walsh, founder of "America's Most Wanted," had a meeting with President Obama yesterday. Walsh started "America's Most Wanted" after experiencing the kidnapping and murder of his son, Adam.

Mr. Walsh's goal for the meeting with the president was to obtain funding for the Adam Walsh Act. He had success with that goal. The law was previously signed in 2006. Now that funding will become available, it will be implemented.

Thus now eventually America will have a national registry for sex offenders and more extensive tracking of the most violent on the list. The registry lists the crime of the sexual offender. There will be a public website to view the national registry for sex offenders.

President Obama said "As the father of two girls, John, I will get the Adam Walsh law Funded," notes ABC news.

There is now new pressure for this law. Chelsea King, a straight A 12th grade student in Poway, California, was allegedly raped and murdered while out for a run in a community park after school.

The alleged murderer, John Gardner, III, was convicted previously for attacking an 8th grade girl. The psychiatrist who evaluated him told the court that he should not be released. If he has now committed a murder, that advice from the doctor should have been heeded.

Gardner is also suspected in the disappearance of Amber DuBois, age 14, in the same area. He was also identified in a photo lineup by Candice Moncayo, who was attacked on December 27, 2009 in the same park where Chelsea King was murdered.

Too many young people in America are being abducted, raped, and murdered. Our nation needs to set stronger rules for these crimes.

Let's hope that now, with the murder of another young woman who had plans for college and a bright future in front of her, that now America will get tougher with criminals who rape and kill. Too many young people are losing their lives to sociopaths.

Murder is always a tragedy. It is even more horrific when the victim is young and is also raped. Violence seems to be ever increasing in our society.

Anytime someone takes a run on a trail or hiking etc they should carry a gun, then use it if they have to! John Walsh carried on despite His horrible horrible ordeal! We should lock them all up but first We have to find, arrest and then put them in prison or!? Great report Julia Thanks

I think we should lock them up and forget about them.

There aren't any words for this type of crime. I hope they are all brutalized as they burtalize. I do not like to judge, but guilt is guilt, and if you are guilty of that I don;t even think we should be BOUND by laws regarding what we can do to you....in abscense of that Code of Hammarabi type model which I realize isn't practical, we need to o all we can legislatively. I personally think child rape should be death penalty eligible in certain cases, as long as other crimes are.

Gardner should have never been freely lurking in their midst. Too many of these criminals are walking around, hunting innocent victims. Cheers on the report, Julia, John Walsh is a hero for persevering after his son, Adam's death.
