Realistically the massive debt this Country faces was inherited from the Bush administration and if it has to larger to save the world, then so be it.
Realistically if President Obama does not actually attack these massive problems head on then there is no hope for the future, unless you are in the elite crowd who still have plenty of the green stuff. And even then, how can we divide the country and the world so it will be okay for the have's to see people without healthcare suffer as well as our Oceans getting filthier and filthier while garbage still continues to pile up and be moved around.
Global warming is very real and the approaches being taken to save the planet minimal. The approaches being taken now should have been done some twenty years ago. But for some odd reason the Glaciers melting at an unprecedented rate does not seem to worry the simple little guy who is trying to pay rent and feed his family. The big guys such as Corporate America and World Governments seem to think we can fix each problem as it arises. Is that when your house is underwater and we all have to wear surgical masks because we cannot breathe the polluted air any longer?
The American Indians, whose home and lands we took away, posed the question to the future builders of the US. When you have used up all of your resources and killed off the wildlife, will you then eat your money?
Who as Americans have we become? If our Country is leading others in the fight against global warming, taking care of our sick and infirm, and being civilized we are failing miserably. What is wrong here? Too much fear of losing possessions and not enough respect for life. Of course that's just an opinion that I have developed over the sixty years I've lived on the planet.
The fact that parents are up in arms about the president making a special time to speak to students about the importance of education just amazes me. Yet when I think of it being President George W. Bush instead of Obama I too would not want him giving a speech to my child about anything. (Did George W. know how to give a speech?)
I do not think we are a United Nation in terms of people, I think we are very segregated and judgmental. We have major internal issues with criminals and gangs yet instead of finding forums to help these individuals reprogram themselves we continue to punish those leaving prison. We do this by background checks that make sure these individuals will never legally be in a position to make a decent living or rise above a life and shabby environment that formed them to begin with.
Overcrowding is a major problem in prisons in this country and statistically one in every twenty-nine Americans is incarcerated. That probably includes someone in your extended family somewhere. What does that say about us as a society?
Our elected Government Officials we well as civic minded community workers need to be able to focus on changes that can really help people to change who are, and can be part of the backbone of this country. The world changes one person at a time and we need to accelerate changing for the better and the future as quickly as possible.
We need to quit outsourcing and start taking care of ourselves with our own sustainable products and also be empowered to help others in need that we love and want reach out for. Cutting hospital beds for the mentally ill should never be an option, anymore than cutting healthcare for the neediest.
This country and world need more leaders who see the effects of everything running more smoothly and healing around the globe by the US respecting the work and life of the people who build the foundations. Foundations for the buildings we work in, homes we live in and pave the roads we drive on. These people care for our children while we work, care for us when we are sick, and teach and work in schools where they are in a direct disadvantage as they have student's now speaking as many as seven different languages.
Yes President Obama and this new administration certainly have their work cut out for them and there will have to many compromises made within the public as well as Government for any true fruitful changes to come about. I do feel that as a society of civilized human beings, we should be a bit more patient and appreciative of any visions that could be implemented to save the planet, health and well being of the beings upon it.
The President is one person who must negotiate and work with many others. This is the first President I have ever known to actually take a direct interest in what the people have to suggest. Usually the Presidents leave that up to the Representatives, Senators and Lobbyists.
