President Obama VS Mr. Obama

The Apparent Confusion Over Title

Storm
After the newness of it all has worn off it all still feels like it just happened. The moment he actually became president was simply a miracle from whatever god a person holds holy. My life has already improved and I am confident that we will weather the storm.

But there is something that just bugs the hell out of me. Why do some folks call Barak "Mr. Obama, and some call him President Obama. Is it that they are still not over the shock of it all? I have seen this confusion as to how to refer to him all over the media. Hell, the girls on the "View" have made the same mistake in conversation.

I want to clear it all up for you.... he is president so give him due and call him by his rightful title. He will always be president in title, just like Bill Clinton or either of the Bush Boys. Whether you are just forgetting or you just can't bring yourself to use the right words, it doesn't change the fact that he is our president.

For those of you that have a problem with calling him by his title of president, get used to it.

I totally agree. I noticed it a lot in the beginning, especially on Fox-Unfair and Unbalanced. I'd hear President Bush..but Mr. Obama. They need to get over it and realize he's there in his position as President Obama, so either like it or stfu.

I was wondering about this as well, but I didn't really think it was a respect issue since I heard NPR using it repeatedly and they can hardly be considered a conservative outlet or anti-Obama at all. So I googled it and found out that, in fact, there is a journalism rule about it where a second appearance of the name changes it from "President" to "Mr." The New York Times apparently has always employed this method, as well as -previously mentioned- NPR. So it actually has nothing to do with people not respecting President Obama, it just has to do with a grammatical rule. The link I found explaining this can be read here:
