Presidential Dollars Scam

Presidential Dollars - Are They Disappearing? What Are They Worth?

The Portland Journal
Okay let's face facts here, the Presidential Dollar Infomercial is probably as hard sell as it gets. And as for 'Disappearing Dollars' I am not convinced at all!

I mean come on some of these Dollar coins minted by the US Mint have appeared in my hand straight out of the Portland Metro MAX line ticket machines in Portland, Oregon.

These Dollar coins started to make an appearance in 2007, and as they have been so aptly put on the Infomercial that is being circulated in the USA, apparently they are disappearing so quick, that it won't be long before you will not be able to find them and they will be worth a fortune soon... well that is the impression we get when we watch the advert at 2am!

Okay the scoop is that this is not the case, and you could probably walk into any US Bank and buy a stack of these Presidential Dollars, neatly packaged and never circulated for guess what? A dollar each!

So is the offer of uncirculated Dollars with the face of one of the famous US Presidents on them by 'Disappearing Dollars', a scam?

Let's look at just a few simple facts:

Uncirculated?

To me any coin that has been taken from a bank, taken out of its paper protective sleeve and placed in a clear plastic holder by a person or a machine is certainly in the circulated bracket. Now I don't know about you guys and girls who are into coin collecting, but when someone says to you that something is uncirculated, it would mean that it has never been touched by a human hand or taken out of the original mint sleeve?

Disappearing?

I can't see this happening to tell you the truth, someone somewhere are always going to have a Presidential Dollar... right or wrong?

Maybe if the company sells all of them and everybody melts the coins down then we shall truly have rarity on our hands. Let's face it (pardon the pun) there are hundreds of thousands if not millions of these coins in circulation, and thousands in any good US bank in uncirculated form.

Try it for yourself one day, pop into a few banks and ask to purchase a roll of Presidential Dollars. You will find them!

Dressed Up!

The only thing going for the Infomercials claims is really the nice plastic packaging and presentation box. This really is what you are paying for and the handing cost, shipping etc.

Many coin collectors and investment persons will warn you not to spend any more than a dollar on these Presidential Coins... because that is the true face value!

But if you want the coins in a nicely presented format, then go ahead grab yourself some from 'Disappearing Dollars'.

A Scam?

No!

'Disappearing Dollars' is not a scam by any stretch of the imagination; it is run by quite a respectable organization. But the Infomercial and advertising is a touch misleading.

I for one have not and will not be buying these coins in a presentation box. I can get them for a Dollar each from the bank unwrapped. And it won't be in my lifetime when I see them disappear of the face of the Earth, or become valuable.

The decision is entirely yours... but as for a scam, that would be a no!
