Dennis Kucinich was one of the only candidates to vote against the war in Iraq, and against the patriot act. In fact, Dennis toured the country before the war in Iraq, trying to inform people of the real reasons we were going to war, and the dangers of such a war. Most of his warnings have come true, and about everything he has said about the true motives of our government were correct as well.
All the other candidates are side stepping the issue of the failing war on drugs. The only way you can win a war, is to completely obliterate the opposition. However there will always be drugs, so its impossible to win the war. Prohibition of alcohol failed, so they just changed the name to war, because America had never lost a war, and thought it would be good. Everyone seems to be complaining about how much we are spending on the war in Iraq, but fail to realize we are spending around 200 billion dollars a year on the failing war on drugs. Besides, how is locking someone up for 10 years helping them? Also, the only thing making drugs illegal does is create more and more violence in our country because it creates thousands of Al Capones. Dennis recognizes this problem and, if elected, plans to make some serious changes.
You may think Kucinich doesn't have enough experience to be president. But he has enough to be a reliable president in my opinion. Why should someone have to be a senator for 20 years before being president? Ronald Reagan was an actor initially and he was elected. In some ways i think its a good thing to not have been in the government for to long before being president. The less you are involved in government the more you are involved with the people directly, and the less time you have to become corrupted by the government.
There are few topics that divide America more than the issues associated with firearms, but Dennis can see both sides of the argument. There are plenty of people who Dennis personally knows who go hunting, or shooting at the range who are good people, these aren't criminals, and they lock up their guns when they aren't using them. On the other side of the spectrum Kucinich has also talked with widows and children left fatherless due to the improper use of firearms, and he is committed to preventing such tragedies from happening.
Not to sound like i am voting for a president completely on their views on drugs. Kucinich is one of the only choices who has called for the Decriminalization of marijuana. The current laws on marijuana have hurt countless people. over 700,000 people each year are arrested for non violent drug offences. Marijuana has never killed anyone, and it has been used for thousands of years up until now. The reasons for the drug being made illegal in the first place all stem from racism, fear, scare tactics, and lying to the entire country as a whole to try and get them on the side of the American government. Its gone on for far to long.
If minimum wage had been increased correctly adjusting to inflation it would be over $8.50. Dennis wants to do something about this as well, considering its impossible to survive on minimum wage with a family. Kucinich also wants to attempt to slow the tide of outsourcing, and plans to bring some justice to taxation. The middle class working Americans have for to long had greater tax rates than the super rich, and this just doesn't add up. Why should the middle class have to pay extra for the rich to get richer?
In the end i don't know how much of a chance Dennis Kucinich has of winning the presidency considering people who actually want to help, people not in the race for self gain, people who really know what their talking about and can really help the country, sadly, usually don't get elected. But i hope someone reads this and becomes a supporter of Kucinich in '08. If you want to read more about Dennis Kucinich you can find a wealth of information at his website www.kucinich.us

Post a CommentFor the dems, he could NEVER beat Hillary or Obama. He has a lot in common w/Ron Paul. Not all, but enough for them to agree on key issues. Perhaps the two underdogs (a leftie and a rightie) should join forces (Kucinich as VP) and show the country what it means to come together and compromise?
I just watched one of his You Tube videos this morning and decided to go back to watch some more. I can not say your article has made me want to instantly support him, because he sounds much like Barack Obama, so it will be a tough choice to make.
