Presidential Inauguration Tickets, Can You Still Get Them?

Robert Getz
For the thousands of people that want to attend the swearing in ceremony for the 44th president of the United States the chances of getting them are pretty slim. In fact the only places you can get them are from your member of congress's office and the virtual lines for them are unbelievably long. Also a note to those who think they have, or think they will get, swearing in ceremony tickets online at such websites as EBay - you are being taken. The person who gets the tickets can only pick them up the day before the actual swearing in ceremony. The tickets themselves are free to those lucky people who get them, and for those who are considering offers to buy them, beware the chances are that you are being scammed. This should not dissuade you from trying to get them though, so if you want to attend I would strongly suggest that you call your member of congress's office as soon as you can, and see if you can be one of the lucky ones to get tickets to the swearing in of Barack Obama our 44th president, and the first African American to be elected to the White House.

This being said there are a number of sites online that claim to have tickets for sale to the inauguration and the parade and are listed as relatively reputable; the most popular site on Google is www.inauguraltickets.com, which claims to have access to tickets for all of the events, including the swearing in ceremony, the parade and the various balls. A note to those would be buyers though, it is considered illegal to sell the "free" inauguration swearing in ceremony tickets, so buyers beware as there are plenty of scam artists just waiting to take your money.

Places to stay for the inauguration events are almost as rare as tickets, although at the time of writing this article, there are several web sites claiming to have rooms available at various hotels in the area. Some of these sites are www. presidentinauguarationhotels.eventbrite.com and of course www.ebay.com. Again beware of those who would take your money and give you a sad story when you arrive. Hotels are for the most part booked solid, but cancellations so occur. If you are willing to travel, you will have much better luck finding a place to stay. I would suggest looking at some of the online travel sites such as www.orbits.com or www.travelocity.com.

Once you have your place to stay, the next problem facing you is getting to the actual site of the swearing in, or parade. If you are one of the lucky one s to find a room close to the events, then perhaps the easiest way is to take the metro or just walk. For those who are further out, the only way recommended is to park in the outlying areas and take the metro. Be prepared to arrive as much as 4 to 5 hours early and dress warm and comfortably. You will be allowed to leave the secured areas, but you will not be allowed back in. You should not bring any bags other than a small purse with you, and all persons will be searched by security at least once. Bring small snack foods with you and some form of beverage, food and drinks will not be available, however portable bathrooms will be set up throughout the areas.

  • Free to all but can you buy them

Tickets to these events are hotter than tickets to the Led Zeppelin reunion show with reported prices in the five figure range
