Thomas Jefferson, the third president
Wrote the Declaration of Independence.
He invented a lot of things like a copy press,
Revolving chair, pedometer for his steps.

Walking stick that is a chair to sit down
Music stand that revolves around
A patent was never applied for him
Wanted people to have free use of them

A mind-challenged sister died too early,
Died alone in the woods, at age thirty.
Playing the violin through that time
Gave Jefferson comfort in his mind.

Martha Skelton was his lovely bride
For only ten years she was by his side
Five daughters she gave him, and one boy
Martha died, leaving him feeling destroyed.

He was a linguist with 6 to his praise
That was no small feat in those days
His intelligence was why it was allowed
To shake hands with leaders, instead of bow.
