Pressed Floral and Stain Glass Crafting

Cheri Majors, M.S.
Pressed floral, stain-glass looking, crafted items are a fun way to preserve hand-picked memories. Include these treasures in scrapbook page arrangements, or card inserts, in elegant oval or heart shapes, and create nostalgic bookmarks following these simple steps.

Pressed Floral Stain Glass Craft Supplies
Wax paper roll
Crayon shavings
Tiny garden flowers and herbs
Ribbon loop, either satin or curling ribbon
Hole punch
Cardboard scraps
Scissors
Iron, preheated on low
Dishtowel

Pressed Floral Stain Glass Bookmarks

Cut wax paper into strips of 4" x 8" and fold lengthwise, making a 2" x 8" bookmark size. Unfold the wax paper and place it over a kitchen towel, to protect your iron, ironing board, or counter top.

On one side of the wax paper fold, arrange tiny flowers, flat ferns, and pieces of colorful crayon shavings. Re-fold the wax paper, cover with a kitchen towel, and iron (without steam) until the crayon shavings and wax paper seal around the bookmark edges.

Allow to cool before hole-punching a ribbon-lacing hole, at one end of the bookmark. String a loop of either satin or curling ribbon through the hole, and secure the ends by pulling them together, back through the loop end, for a finished pressed-floral stain-glass looking bookmark.

Pressed Floral Stain Glass Oval or Heart Shapes

Create a 2" X 3" heart shape or oval from scrap cardboard. Draw and cut out an oval, or heart-shape stencil, laying it over a folded sheet of wax paper (cutting 2 at once). Following the same assembly instructions for the bookmark; lay one oval or heart-shape wax paper sheet onto a kitchen towel, and add tiny flowers, herbs, and crayon shavings onto the wax paper shape, covering with the matching piece.

Carefully fold an end of the kitchen towel over the heart or oval shape, and then press with a pre-heated iron. Move the iron firmly over the towel until the crayon shavings are completely melted, and the wax paper has sealed edges all around. Use these elegant pressed-floral and stain-glass looking shapes for card inserts, as well as on scrapbooking or faith-book pages.
