Pretty Ricky's Eighties Babies: Early Album Review

The Raunchiest Group in Urban Music Are Back

The Reviewer
Pretty Ricky are known as one of the raunchiest groups in all of modern music. Their extremely explicit lyrics and subject matter have given the group a broad fan-base. One of the original members Pleasure P left the group and was replaced by another R&B crooner 4Play. Will the absence of Pleasure P be noticeable on their latest album Eighties Babies or will 4Play step up to the plate to fill the void?

The first single off of Eighties Babies is Cuddle Up featuring Butta Creame. The song the typical vibe that you would expect from a Pretty Ricky song; yet the song is not as explicit or as successful as typical Pretty Ricky singles. The song however is well produced and fairly well performed.

Knockin' Boots '08 is an updated cover of H-Town's classic of the same name. The track was one of the better tracks of the early 90's and feels appropriate being covered by Pretty Ricky. 4Play gets the chance to showcase his vocal ability on the track and Slick'Em, Spectacular and Diamond Blue deliver their raunchiest lyrics.

4 Play is another 1980's inspired track. The song leans more to the R&B side of Pretty Ricky as the production is very R&B inspired. On the track 4Play shows off his falsetto.

Marry Me (Down On My Knees) is probably the most G-rated Pretty Ricky song ever. The song definitely is 1980's inspired and a very solid track.

Bedroom Beast is exactly what you expect from Pretty Ricky. The song is one of the raunchiest tracks in recent memory even though the chorus sounds very similar to a very familiar nursery rhyme.

XXL is a solid mid-tempo track with a innovative subject matter. The track works well and the guys of Pretty Ricky deliver.

Insecure proves that the members of Pretty Ricky should not rap about anything besides ladies. When the guys try to talk about other subject matter they just fail.

How Long (On And On) is the type of track Pretty Ricky's fan-base will love. The song also features Butta Creame. The production is catchy and the delivery is energetic.

Overall Eighties Babies is exactly the album you have come to expect from Pretty Ricky. The group however is clearly missing Pleasure P as 4Play's vocal ability and delivery is completely different. Overall Eighties Babies gets 7.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of Pretty Ricky make sure you pick up Eighties Babies when it is available in stores early next year.
