Love the cat. Hate having to constantly clean up the water spills at her bowl, hate her digging in the garden and really hate having to put eye drops in her eyes. Welcome to pet ownership. There will always be things we hate about cat care-giving, and to make some of them simpler and avoid a few cat - tastrophies, try these tips.
Keep Kitty Water Off the Floor
Cats, especially kittens and young adults, are playful by nature. A water bowl is merely something for them to paw at and flip over, once they've finished drinking. Keep the kitty water off the floor and in the bowl with this tip - Instead of using a traditional bowl for water, use a heavy glass pie plate. A glass pie plate ( the type used to bake pies in) is shallow enough for Kitty to drink out of, but too heavy for her to flip. If your cat likes to flip over her food bowl, use a second glass pie plate for food.
Prevent Kitty from Digging in Garden
If Kitty enjoys excavating in your garden, put a stop to the cat- tastrophy with chicken wire. After garden soil has been preped and flowers and/or vegetables planted, lay down chicken wire on top of the soil (cover lightly with mulch if desired). Cats detest walking on the unstable metal wire surface and will steer clear of the garden. Flowers and plants will grow up through the chicken wire without problem. This chicken wire tip will also keep squirrels, rabbits and deer out of garden.
Eye Drop Cat - Tastrophy
Some cat breeds seem to be prone to having frequent eye infections, and needless to say, they fight tooth and claw to avoid having eye drops placed in their eyes. The squinting, squirming and scratching make it almost impossible to get the eye drops in infected eye, but this tip will make hitting the mark much easier - Swaddled Kitty in a towel like a baby, this will hold her still and prevent you from being scratched, then cradle Kitty in your arm like a baby. Use thumb to pull down lower eyelid and index finger to hold open the top eyelid. With the bottle of eye drops in other hand, squeeze out a few drops in Kitty's eye. Aim for the whites of the eye instead of the pupil, it will be more comfortable for your cat.
