Prevent and Cover Up Dark Under Eye Circles

Dark circles under the eyes are impossible to get rid of completely, but it's easy to reduce and cover them up. For those without dark under-eye circles, you can prevent them, too. Dark eye circles make eyes look tired and older, and they can be pretty difficult to reduce, Dark eyes circles are caused by a number of factors including genetics, lack of sleep, diet, sun exposure and facial bone structure.

Prevention:

Most people with under eye circles have inherited them from family members, but you can still develop them if you have a poor lifestyle. Get plenty of sleep, at least 8 hours, drink lots of water and eat lots of healthy food. Fresh fruits and vegetables are very beneficial to your skin. Not applying too much eye cream at night also helps, and always wear a hat or plenty or sunscreen in the sun.

Reducing:

Follow all the tips mentioned in "prevention" and lead a healthy lifestyle. To help lighten your circles, use a whitening eye cream. You can also place two raw cucumbers or potato slices over the eyes, both of these have natural lightening properties. Do this every day and you will definitely see an improvement. Vitamin A and K are great for dark eye circles, try eating foods rich in these vitamins or buy a cream with them. don't rub your eyes as this will irritate your skin and can damage the eye area's delicate skin.

There are now fancy creams available, such as "hylexin", that are targeted towards dark eye circles, I have never tried them but they seem to work. They are very pricey though, you should try changing your diet and using the potato/cucumber trick and if they don't work for you, you might want to try one.

Concealing:

If you want to cover your eye circles, use a liquid concealer that is two shades lighter than your skin. Avoid thick concealers as they will settle into fine lines around your skin. 'Dot' the foundation onto your dark circles, following their shape. Tap the foundation into your skin using the tips of your fingers. If you rub it in, it will provide practically no coverage. If your circles are blue or purple colored, use a yellow colored concealer.

If your under eye circles are out of control, it's best to see your doctor who can offer creams or procedures. If you have allergies it's possible that they are causing your dark eye circles, you can just take your allergy medication. Good luck!
