Prevent Obesity Before it Starts!
Obesity is a Tragic and Ugly Disease that Affects Countless Lives. The Good News Is, it Can Be Prevented!
The author of this article pointed out the reality of America's seemingly biggest problem-obesity. There is no doubt in anyone's mind that this problem is increasing and is very unhealthy. Many Americans wonder why and how this problem escalated into the realistic state it's now in. The truth is there are many different factors involved and they do not simply all revolve around food.
The author of this article listed some operations and programs in order to deal with obesity as well as what parents can do. I hope to expand on some of this information as well as deal more in depth with the actual causes of obesity. I will also identify some preventative methods as well as healthy habits to stop this disease from affecting so many lives.
According to bbc.co.uk, obesity is caused by three major factors, and sometimes the combination of all three. The three major components include genes, food, and physical activity.
Many are under the impression that obesity is an inherited disease. This is only partially true. There are genes that can be linked to an increasing or decreasing appetite which may cause people to overeat and gain weight. These cases are probably the most difficult to change because genes are something we inherit. However, if the appetite continues to increase, there are a few things worth trying.
First, consult your doctor and see if it might be a good idea to take an appetite suppressant. Obviously, this is not something you want to consider unless you are seriously overweight; however, it may help one to start eating healthier portion sizes. Also, satisfy your appetite with healthy foods like fruit and vegetables and whole grains. Fiber is also an excellent solution to flush out unneeded calories.
Another way to deal with a raging appetite is to eat several small meals throughout the day. If you wait until meal time, you are likely to overeat.
Another cause of obesity is the food itself. America definitely has a wide variety and assortment of foods. In fact, there are so many choices that many of us are left feeling overwhelmed by it and just go for the easiest and fastest choices of food. These easy and fast options often include high calorie food, such as what you would find at a fast food restaurant. As if that were not enough, Americans are constantly bombarded by advertisements for all sorts of unhealthy foods.
These advertisements are often placed pretty much anywhere our eyes can wander. It is also common to link food to our emotions. For example, what's the best and easiest way to deal with a bad day? How about a candy bar? Or maybe you choose a high calorie sugary soda to boost your energy?
Linking our emotions to food is dangerous and often pushes our waistlines as well. This problem is especially common for women. A healthier way to deal with sadness, or feeling tired is to exercise. While this often does not sound like an easy or as fun of an alternative, it definitely can be! Unfortunately, so many people are under the impression that exercise is hard work and that they are too tired to do it. However, exercise has been proven to increase energy over time, as well as boost self confidence. Also, there are plenty of forms of exercise available which may heighten metabolism, increase energy, and decrease waistlines. Also, exercise increases endorphins just like chocolate, only it is much healthier!
The third component dealing with obesity is physical activity itself. It is said that 20 to 30 minutes of physical activity is often enough to counteract obesity. This may involve a brisk walk every day after work, or a bike ride as a family. Pilates and aerobics are a fun way to work out and gain grace and energy!
Also, it is important to view exercise as a way to be healthy. Many people see exercise as a punishment, or just another thing they have to do. Let your workouts be the highlight of your day. Instead of rewarding yourself with food, reward yourself with a smaller pant or skirt size!
Finally, healthy living typically works better in pairs. Find a neighbor or friend to go on walks with. You will find that the extra social interaction and accountability makes losing weight much easier.
