Preventing Boredom in the Bedroom

Engage All Your Senses

Rebecca Bardelli

Married couples and couples who have been together for some time may find they start to get bored with each other. Let's explore some ways to avoid boredom in the bedroom.

Create a romantic atmosphere where your special someone and yourself can relax and be alone. Make sure bedrooms are free of children's toys and clutter. Create a romantic atmosphere by arousing all the senses.

Here are some ideas to prevent boredom in the bedroom. All of these ideas should be done in a bedroom to eventually lead to sexual intimacy. Try several ideas together to involve all of the senses at one time.

Give Each Other a Hot Stone Massage or an Oil Massage (Sense of Touch)

Give each other a hot stone massage like they give at massage parlors. Giving each other a massage gives each partner a chance to do something nice for the other and in the end both partners will be relaxed. Giving massages at home is less expensive than going to a massage parlor and more intimate. Heat your stones in hot water or purchase a hot stone heater. Giving each other a massage with massage oil is also another way to prevent boredom in the bedroom. Heat the massage oil in hot water to produce a warm oil. Purchase romantic scents to include the sense of smell. Touching one another with massage leads to kissing and increased intimacy. Completely undress for a full body massage.

Choose the Right Bedding (Sense of Touch)

Use high thread count sheets of 350 count to 500 count. Choose comfortable and romantic bedding such as silk comforters or a down comforter made from down feathers of geese. Bedding that is romantic in sight and appealing to the touch will encourage intimacy and prevent boredom in the bedroom.

Use a Blind Fold and do a Wine Tasting (Sense of Taste)

Take turns blindfolding each other and sampling 1.5-oz. servings of wine. Use plastic shot glasses for the perfect tasting and serving size. Try mixing different wines together for a more challenging game to see if your partner can guess the mixture of the two wines. Purchase wine in four-pack mini bottles to avoid having to open several full bottles of wine. Try sneaking a kiss when the other is blindfolded and not expecting it.

Eat Drunken Fruit or Chocolate (Sense of Taste)

Tantalize taste buds by feeding each other drunken fruit or chocolate. Add some cool whip for extra fun! Wine in the drunken fruit and chocolate can both act as an aphrodisiac. Add some bananas to the drunken fruit as they are also considered an aphrodisiac.

Candles and Wax Potpourri (Sense of Smell and Sight)

Use candles to set a romantic mood and ignite the sense of smell and sight. A great alternative to candles is a potpourri warmer and wax potpourri. My husband and myself recently purchased a potpourri warmer and wax potpourri for the bedroom.

Wax potpourri allows you to try out different scents and escape to different destinations through your sense of smell. Escape to the beach, enjoy the scent of the rainforest or feel as though you are at the beach next to the fire by choosing the right scented potpourri.

Wear Appealing Clothing (Sense of sight)

Wear clothing that you feel attractive in and that your partner finds you attractive in. When you feel attractive you become more approachable because you feel good about yourself.

For men this could mean wearing sexy boxer shorts and for females wearing lace lingerie. Perhaps a shopping trip to Victoria's Secret is in order for sexy undergarments. Pick up some sexy scents while you are at Victoria's Secret such as Very Sexy or Incredible.

Play Music (Sense of Hearing)

Play classical music such as Pachelbel to create a relaxed atmosphere and to captivate the sense of hearing. Another music option is club or dance music to create a fun atmosphere. Dance together and have fun in a club made for two.

Remember that sex does not and should not be boring. Keep things new and have fun!

LOL - I have to be honest, boredom is never the problem - weariness overtakes boredom! Sometimes we're just too worn out when we fall into bed after a long day's work to even kiss each other g'nite! cheers!!!
