Preventing Damage to Your Hair: The Do's and Don'ts

BS
Every woman has a signature hairstyle, whether its long and straight or short and curly, it's a very important part of a woman's look. Yes, the eyes, the mouth, the cheek, and all the other facial features are all part of what gives women their specific look, but hair is different. Hair is different because it can easily be changed, it can be cut, died, and styled to give the person a completely new look. The only way you can do that with other features is by choosing cosmetic surgery, and there are many reasons why women don't choose that option.

Hair is very sensitive and very easily damaged. Coloring your hair, the constant heat, and all the things you put your hair through to make it look amazing definitely have a cost. There is no way to prevent all damage to your hair, but if there are some always ways to minimize the amount of damage caused.

Do

Use ionic styling tools for your hair. There is a great chance that these styling tools will be a little bit more pricey than the regular ones, but they are really worth it when you consider how much they benefit your hair. Ionic hair dryers and ionic straightening irons are easily found and not only do they protect your hair, but they also help to heal it.

Try to do a deep conditioning of your hair at least once a week. Although heating tools are the most common causes of damage and breakage, the weather can also work against you. Doing a deep conditioning will help restore your hair and keep it safe against the harsh weather that can be experienced during the winter time.

Every now and then, try a natural look. The constant heat and other treatments that your hair endures make it hard to keep it healthy. If you have time, let your hair air dry instead of using the blow dryer. If you have naturally curly hair, let it be curly a every once in a while, just to give you hair a bit of a resting period. If your hair doesn't look good in its natural state, and unfortunately that is the case sometimes, tie your hair up in a bun or ponytail for the day.

Don't

Go for the cheaper styling tools. Everyone always looks for the deal and the good prices, but for styling tools, that may not be the best idea. Cheap tools can cause even more damage to your hair than regular heating tools do. These tools also break and stop working because they have poor quality, so in the end you may end up spending more money having to keep purchasing styling tools.

Use products containing alcohol. This is one of the worst things you can do to your hair. Every single time you purchase a new hair product, be sure to check the ingredients list. Alcohol causes breakage and frizziness, and no one wants that.

Wash your hair too frequently. This may sound strange, but washing your hair every day is actually bad for it. Constant washing takes out some of the natural oils in your hair and makes it more susceptible to breakage. It is suggested that you wash your hair every three days, but for some that is not possible, so always aim for every other day.

I've always worn my naturally curly hair long, and never had to do anything but wash it and shake my head. Alas, as the grey comes in, I am losing some of my curl. Good to know about those ionic things. I'll look into it. I hate putting goo and gels and things in my hair!
