Preventing Sports Injuries 101

Thomas Monda
Injuries can ruin a day, season, or even a career. Taking injury prevention seriously is a key to have a lasting career in your physical activity. Here are some methods for proper warm up:

Parents:
For the parents that are reading this, everything starts you. You must set an early example for the youth. For example, participate in your child's activity with him in the yard or somewhere else. Before you start, begin stretching without encouraging your child to stretch with you. With this you can get an idea of what is going on in his mind. If he doesn't stretch, wait till the next time you go out with him to mention him to stretch with you. Kids do not want to do what their told, so don't force it upon him. Another way in which you can help with the warm-up of your child is to bring him to the game at least 30 minutes early. If you do this, he will have time to stretch or will already be running around before the game or activity.

Coaches:
Coaches are the second integral part of a kids warm-up. The coaches that are reading this must take stretching seriously. You must understand the importance of stretching. Injuries at a young age can affect a kids career. First, you must make warming up an every day thing. Every game, every practice, have the same routine. This will give them something to look forward to every time they come. But this could get repetitive, so how do you fix that? A good way to make the warm-up not boring is to not only integrate static stretching, but add some dynamic stretches as well. Make them run around, jump around, or even stretch while moving. Have some kind of game associated with it. If you make it fun, the kids will love it. The key is making the kids not realize their stretching. Once you achieve that, you'll be good for the season.

Athletes:
To you, the athlete in question, stretching helps you win. A combo of a static and dynamic warm-up helps you become a top athlete. Give yourself ten minutes before a game to stretch in place. After this, move around a bit. Go take a lap, or a nice jog because doing this will prepare your muscles for competition. Injuries are a nasty thing. They can ruin your season or even worse, your career. Trust me, if you stretch and workout, your play in your activity will increase.
