Preventing Unhealthy Hair

I know there are many people out there who have problems with their hair. I'm not talking about gray hair or thinning hair that comes with age. I'm talking about hair that has lost it's shine and strength, split ends, dry and brittle hair, oily hair or hair that seems to fall out in clumps. Sometimes these conditions can be caused by chemical additives or styling methods, emotional or physical stress, malnutrition, or hormonal imbalance. Just like skin, your hair needs daily nutrients such as eating plenty of fresh fruits and veggies or even taking nutritional supplements. Using an occasional herbal rinse on your hair can help. However, if you notice an increase in hair loss or balding, you should consult your doctor to determine the cause.

So, providing there is no underlying medical reason for your problem hair, what can you do about it? Eating a well-balanced diet and using mild, natural products on your hair will promote healthy growth and give you strong beautiful hair. Comb or brush it a couple of times a day to promote circulation in the scalp, or massage is good too. Don't wash your hair every day, this removes too much of the hair's natural oils. Take a break from your hair dryer, curling iron or straightening iron, the heat will make your hair brittle which will give you split ends. Avoid chemical treatments, this also will make your hair brittle. Instead, try using natural coloring agents such as chamomile tea and lemon juice to brighten or henna for darkening. These are less damaging. Make sure you get enough zinc! Having a deficiency in zinc can cause hair loss, thinning hair, and sparse regrowth, so eat that fish! Don't worry, if you don't like fish, cheese and eggs will work too. You can also get your zinc in the form of a supplement pill. Now, let's take better care of that hair!

And just as an extra tip....for a nice oil treatment for dry hair, you can try this:

Mix 5 tsp. of Jojoba Oil, 5 tsp. of Coconut Oil, 8 drops of Ylang-Ylang and 2 drops of Rose oil. Massage evenly into damp hair. Next, cover with a shower cap or some plastic wrap and leave for a couple of hours (or as long as you're able). Shampoo.

This should make your scalp and hair feel wonderful! Enjoy!
