Dusty Rhodes is what you would probably call the main-eventer of the class. In the sense that he's expected to be the main one featured on the television special (which airs on a tape delay on Saturday night {Sunday morning} at midnight on the USA Network). Rhodes is one of the most popular wrestlers to lace up a pair of boots. His feuds with Ric Flair and The Four Horseman in the 1980s NWA are still remembered fondly. His early tag team days with the late Dick Murdoch in Florida are as well. His ability to speak to the fans and entertain them was unmatched. His two sons, Dustin (formerly known as Goldust in WWE) and Cody (currently under developmental contract to WWE, wrestling in OVW) will give induction speeches.
Jerry Lawler is without a doubt the most well known wrestler, in part due to his job as lead RAW color commentator for most of the past twelve plus years. In Memphis, he's regarded as a true celebrity and still runs a promotion in the territory. He had memorable feuds with Eddie Gilbert and comedian Andy Kaufman along with a more modern feud with Bret Hart. Actor William Shatner will induct him. The two participated in a RAW segment in the mid-1990s.
Curt Hennig is best known for his stint as "Mr. Perfect" in WWE. He was truly one of the best athletes to ever step through the ring ropes. He spent time in the AWA, WWE and WCW along with other promotions. He's one of the first names that come to mind when you think of the greatest talent to never be WWE world champion. He passed away several years ago. Friend Wade Boggs will induct him. His father, fellow veteran wrestler, Larry "The Axe" Hennig is expected to speak as well.
Jim Ross is the TV voice of this generation. Much like his personal favorite announcer Gordon Solie was for his. Ross has been the focal point of national television wrestling since the 1980s when he worked for the NWA. He joined WWE in 1994 and continues to be the lead announcer on the promotion's top television show. His close personal friend, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, will induct J.R..
Ask someone about some of the best managers in WWE and Mr. Fuji will be on that list. But before he became a manager, he was a feared tag team wrestler. Fuji led such wrestlers as Don Muraco, Demolition, Powers of Pain, Yokozuna, Crush and others during his tenure in WWE. His comedy skits with Muraco are still making fans laugh at their sheer ridiculousness to this day. In fact, Muraco is expected to induct Fuji into the hall.
The Wild Samoans, Afa and Sika were one of the top tag teams in WWE in the 1980s. They were WWE tag team champions on three separate occasions. Afa even spent time managing his son and nephew, the Headshrinkers in the '90s. Both have also trained dozens of pro wrestlers since opening up their school. Samu (Afa's son) and former WWE wrestler Rosey (Sika's son) will be giving their induction speeches. The Anoa'I family is one of the biggest in pro wrestling and they will be honored this Friday night.
Nick Bockwinkel is probably one of the top wrestlers associated with the AWA. He feuded with top names such as Verne Gagne and Hulk Hogan in the days of territorial wrestling. Known for his sharp wit on the microphone and intense wrestling skill inside the ring, he's considered one of the best wrestlers of his era. He's expected to be inducted by legendary manager and fellow WWE hall of famer Bobby "The Brain" Heenan.
The Original Sheik was as controversial a figure in pro wrestling as you can get. The late Ed Farhat passed away several years ago but his memory lives. He was the top draw in the old Detroit territory days of pro wrestling. Known for his penchant for being unpredictable, he would routinely throw fireballs towards his opponents. He's expected to be inducted by current WWE superstar Rob Van Dam, who was trained by Sheik. His nephew, current WWE superstar Sabu is expected to accept the award on his uncle's behalf.
The 2007 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony will air live on WWE.com starting at 7 PM eastern on Saturday evening. The television portion will begin airing at midnight eastern on the USA Network. The inductees shown on TV will be Curt Hennig, Jim Ross, Jerry Lawler and Dusty Rhodes.
