Preview of the 2011 Detroit FanFare Comic Book Convention

The 2010 Detroit FanFare comic book convention has come and gone. For those of you that have not read my review, you can find it here. Now that it has passed, and been successful, our eyes must begin to focus on the 2011 Detroit FanFare. While it is still a ways away, there is a lot that we can look forward to.

New Venue for the 2011 Detroit FanFare

The 2010 Detroit FanFare was held at the Hyatt Regency Dearborn in Dearborn, Michigan. While the 25,000 square feet gave comic book fans a lot of convention room, it left many wanting more. The 2011 Detroit FanFare will be held at Cobo Arena in Detroit, Michigan. Now they will have over 100,000 square feet of convention space.

What Cobo Allows for the 2011 Detroit FanFare

First off, obviously, it gives the 2011 Detroit FanFare a lot more room for vendors, and more comic creators. It will easily eliminate the issue that many comic book fans had with the lack of aisle space. Hopefully, though, the aisle space does not become large enough to eliminate some of the potential that the show has.

Also, since Cobo is in a centralized location in Detroit, comic book fans will find that they have a lot of parking options, and a lot more options of what to do in the area when the convention has closed for the night. Also, the fact that there will be more eating locations in the area, hungry tummies will have a lot of choices. Don't forget, there is a People Mover exit at Cobo. Anyone for a quick casino trip?

New Date for the 2011 Detroit FanFare

Instead of being held over Halloween weekend, the 2011 Detroit FanFare will be held on September 24^th and 25^th. Since it will not be a holiday weekend, there will be a lot more comic book fans that will have the opportunity to attend. The weather will not be too hot, and should not be too cold.

Price for Tickets for the 2011 Detroit FanFare

While nothing is official on the 2011 Detroit FanFare, I would expect that the $10 ticket price might increase slightly. I am not expecting it to skyrocket, but I would not be surprised with the price going up to $15 or $20. Since it will be held in a larger venue, there will be higher costs that will have to be covered. With the amount of enjoyment that was had at the $10 price, fans would still be getting a deal at $30 a ticket for a convention that will be four times the size as the original.

Guests for the 2011 Detroit FanFare

It will be interesting to see how the organizers of the 2011 Detroit FanFare try to top Stan Lee (the guest of honor for the 2010 Detroit FanFare). Since there will be a larger venue, we might expect to see more guests around the top caliber than ever before.

Will the 2011 Detroit FanFare Become an International Convention?

With the success of the 2010 Detroit FanFare, and the coverage that has come because of it, I would expect that guests will be coming from a lot further away next year than this year. Will they come from outside the country? Only time will tell.
