Preview of the 2011 National Signing Day in Baton Rouge, LA for the LSU Tigers Bayou Bash

On Wednesday, February 2, 2011 head coach Les Miles and staff will be heading over to the Riverside Centroplex for the 2011 Bayou Bash, aka, National Signing Day.

The big day has finally come, 2011 National Signing Day, where the new recruits all over the country will make their intentions known and final by signing on the dotted line on Wednesday, February 2, 2011. The LSU football team looks to fill a couple of dire spots to fill in the gaps in the rooster left open at the end of the season. Head coach of the LSU Tigers, Les Miles thinks that the job will get done. He has no doubts about it.

Miles has done an excellent job in recruiting and has come up with top recruiting classes in the past couple of years. No doubt that this year will be more of the same. The Tigers are expected to land another big top ten class in 2011.

The LSU Tigers ended the season with a top ten ranking of No. 8 after a nice Cotton Bowl win over Texas A&M with a score of 41 to 24. The Tigers then lost Patrick Peterson, who announced he was foregoing his senior year and entering the NFL draft. Notable players who were seniors on last year's team were Jai Eugene, cornerback; Richard Murphy, running back; Drake Nevis, defensive tackle; and Terrence Toliver, wide receiver. LSU will need to fill the voids these players will leave behind by other players stepping up or by some super talented freshmen stepping in on the scene.

So far, LSU has had three players commit early to play for LSU. Fans are very excited to know that Zach Mettenberger signed in late December. Zach plays the quarterback position and comes to LSU from Oconee County High School and Butler Community College. Mettenberger is 6'5" and weighs 250 lbs. He is a sophomore making the transfer from Butler Community College. Mettenberger has some outstanding stats from high school. He originally signed on with University of Georgia, got into some trouble with the law and found himself booted off the football team. Let's hope all that was just a case of being young and foolish.

Two other commitments have made their intentions clear before the "official day of signing." They are Kenny Hilliard, a running back from Patterson High School in Patterson, LA and Anthony Johnson, defensive tackle from O.P. Walker High School. Johnson is originally from New Orleans, LA.

Hilliard has a five star rating from Rivals.com, is 6'0" and 218 lbs. Hilliard is lean and strong and gives hopes of being a big powerhouse on the field.

Anthony Johnson is big at 6'3" and 294 lbs., but he is also quick on his feet. Johnson was rated a five star athlete by all scouting services and was considered to be the number one defensive tackle prospect this year. Johnson was awarded the 2010 Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year, a nice way to end his high school football career. Look for Johnson to gain some playing time in 2011.
