3 topics the candidates are sure to discuss will be the economy, foreign policy and health care.
The economy is what is most important to voters at the present time, in light of the crisis on Wall Street which is bound to effect everyone at some level. Biden will surely point out the current economic crisis as having come about during George W. Bush's Presidency. He will also discuss how closely John McCain has voted with President Bush in many areas, and how his economic policy is very much in keeping with the current administrations. He will talk about how McCain is more interested in Wall Street than he is those people on Main Street.
Palin is going to do her best to talk about what "mavericks" both she and John McCain are, pointing out the times they have ventured away from the status quo...misaligning themselves with their own party. She is also going to talk about how John McCain has the interests of the country at heart more than his political career, citing how he dropped his campaigning last week in order to rush to Washington to try and help come to a decision regarding the proposed economic bailout. She will also talk about her experience as Governor of Alaska and the fiscal responsibilities there.
In regard to foreign policy, Senator Biden will speak about his years of experience, and of being the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He will talk about how the current administration has gotten us into a very difficult situation in Iraq, and he will surely speak of the lack of experience that Governor Palin has in the field of foreign policy. He will talk about Barack Obama's plan for Iraq and his determination to keep America safe, using military force only as a last resort. He will talk about his good friend John McCain and honor his service to his country. But he will point out that being a POW for years does not qualify someone to be President. He will also bring up our dependence on foreign oil, and how that needs to stop...by using renewable energy and green technology.
Governor Palin is going to say what she has been instructed to say, and she is going to try and do it so that it doesn't seem like she has been coached. But to the woman who has cited the geographical proximity of Alaska to Russia as "foreign policy" experience, she is going to need all of the coaching she can get. Her answers are going to be repetitive during the debate...especially if she gets stuck during a particular question. She is going to use this time as a time to speak of John McCain's understanding of foreign policy as coming from someone who has been there...and lived through some horrible things during his service in Vietnam. She will also talk about foreign oil dependency and speak of their plan to reduce that dependency...citing her accomplishments in Alaska.
In regard to health care, Biden will speak of Barack Obama's plan to see that health care is affordable for every American...and to see that every child is insured. He will talk about those who are sick and dying simply because they have no insurance. He will talk about Senator McCain's plan and how it is only going to help those who can already afford insurance, leaving those who cannot behind.
Governor Palin is going to talk about how America does not want or need the government involved in their individual health care. She is going to describe McCain's plan as one which will benefit everyone without the government being involved. She will talk about how Barack Obama wants the government involved in everything...and at what cost to American taxpayers.
In order to win over undecided voters, Palin is going to have to prove that she is ready to lead this country in the event that John McCain cannot. This is going to be a tall order for Palin, especially in light of recent interviews which have not shown her in the best light. She is going to have to speak of Barack Obama's inexperience as she speaks of her executive experience in Alaska.
Biden will win over undecided voters by showing his knowledge of foreign policy issues. He will also need to speak about Palin's inexperience, especially in regard to foreign policy. He will also need to speak about the Republicans and how this current financial crisis we are experiencing came about under President Bush, who John McCain has voted with over 90% of the time.
This debate could be one which will turn the tide more definitively in one direction or the other.
