Prey is a dark story about a Native American Indian mechanic named Tommy. Tommy doesn't embrace his Cherokee heritage and is constantly looking for a way off of the reservation which he calls home. One day, Tommy, his girlfriend, and his grandfather are abducted and taken onboard an alien spaceship called the Sphere. Tommy escapes from the aliens but is trapped on the ship. He is soon desperate to save his family and possibly the Earth! He must learn to embrace his spiritual side and change his past ways in order to succeed. This involves sacrifice, love, and responsibility.
Enough about Tommy, let us move onto the alien ship! The ship is strange. Gravity is not always in effect. In some areas, Tommy (and your enemies) can walk on walls or ceilings. This means that alien foes can attack you from all directions. But Tommy can also do the same. Drop down on an enemy from a ceiling or run along the walls to escape! Just wait until you get into an anti-gravitational room where there is no gravity at all! There are also portals that can transport you from one area to another. Unfortunately, enemy aliens use them to attack you from out of no where! In many areas, you can't progress in the game unless you utilize the strange rules of gravity that take place upon the ship.
Now how does Tommy combat these aliens? Why with strange bio-mechanical alien weapons of course. These weapons are living and breathing, just like the alien ship. Speaking of aliens, the enemy AI is also quite intelligent. Firefights are intense and you will have to outsmart the aliens to progress.
Tommy has a few other things on his side. One is the Spiritual Hawk. This little guy helps Tommy kill the aliens and decipher the strange alien language. Tommy also can utilize his spiritual abilities. Spirit Walk allows Tommy to leave his body and pass through objects that his physical body cannot pass through. If Tommy dies in battle, he can use the Death Walk. With this Tommy can return to the land of the living by battling the dishonored dead in a shooting mini game.
Prey has excellent graphics. The living and breathing alien environment is quite stunning to look at, although creepy. The dramatic cut scenes are also superb! In fact the opening cut scene will leave you wanting to know more! The soundtrack is also awesome and fits in well with the mood of the game. But, the story itself has to be the best part of the game. It will really get you going as Tommy grows and learns to find his true self as the game progresses.
Prey is available for your PC or for the XBOX 360. It has an ESRB rating of M for Mature. This is because the game features violence and blood. A strategy guide is available for those of you who like to cheat!
