Priceless

Even among the billionaire Oligarchs of modern-day Russian monarchy, one-time Siberian orphan Roman Abramovich stood alone. It seemed astonishing that a man who can buy the world was forced like 76,000 others in the Luzhniki stadium to simply watch and pray.

In the midst of a Moscow downpour, almost Mancunian in its ferocity a tumultuous occasion reached a heart-stopping climax. A goal apiece, fighting tooth and nail for every inch in what was an enthralling contest Manchester United and Chelsea fought each other to a standstill.

Not a needle thread could be darned between them and after 120 minutes they were only wrenched apart by the hideous facade of penalties. Russian roulette, at first no one missed. Until ultimately an unexpected loss of nerve from United's Cristiano Ronaldo gifted a heaven sent match-point to Chelsea Captain John Terry.

Handed a golden opportunity to win the Champion's League Terry strode purposefully from the centre-circle, adjusting his armband for all to witness, exuding self-confidence. The many critics of Abramovich's Chelsea claimed they were nothing but a footballing Frankenstein: soul-less, man-made, effective maybe but totally lacking any substance.

But winning the European Cup changes minds, opens doors and creates legends. Upon John Terry's' shoulders lay the immense weight of history. All the grand luxurious yachts, jumbo jets, fine art, limousines and beautiful women. For Ramon Abramovich victory that night on home soil would have dwarfed all.

Priceless.

Up stepped Terry only to slip sending his effort crashing against Van der Sars' left hand post. Sir Alex Ferguson's team remained alive whilst Terry appeared distraught, his defining moment gone forever. The tears fell. Anderson came forward for United and an amazing night in Moscow went on
