Pride

mimpi
Spurting tall through sky
Eyeing down with fake conceit
I'm not belittled.

(I owe this poem to Brigdet Delaney who has appreciated all my work without going overboard. I am especially thankful to her for pointing out the 'should haves and should not have beens' with equal fervor. )

You've managed to say a lot through just a few words. It's an inspiration for me as I am trying my hand at poetry.

The palm tree is a brilliant metaphor for pride. I have seen palms toppled by a strong wind, and the roots are not deep, despite their height. This is a most telling image for pride, I think. This haiku is brilliant in its simplicity. Excellent economy!
