Pride, Wrath, Sloth, Lust

What Can You Do About Them

Godfather89
As you know with Paris Hilton and the Whole Media Coverage that she recieved it tells me that she was not raised in the best ways possible. I have been inspired to write about the Seven Deadly Sins and tell you how to fix your deadliest sin to its opposite Cardinal Virtues. I would like to talk to you first about how Paris Hilton's deadliest sin is Pride. After watching this program "eXtra" they showed her home.

Did anyone else realize all the pictures of HERSELF! Oh lets not forget about the Large Memorial Type Picture of HERSELF! Im sorry people but the first sin was committed by Lucifer he thought he was better than God and wanted to rule as God! So what did he do? His pride causes him to fall and turn into the devil who know longer see's God and is the Prince of Darkness. Well folks Paris Hilton is just as bad as far as her pride goes.

Pride is the deadliest sin of them all. Why is Pride so deadly you may ask. If you look at all the other sins pride originated first. For example, Greed and Pride "Money improves my self-image to the world so people can celebrate about me!" My favorite is Sloth and Pride "I am to good for this work!" How about pride itself "I am to good for you!" Pride before the fall is a well known quote. Paris Hilton has fallen long ago since those controversial sex tapes. She maybe a human being but she is dead inside she lives for all the other deadly sins which enforce her pride so she is just stuck in a terrible cycle. Pride blinds you to the truth by making you look great to yourself but not to God.

As it was stated in Leviticus 26:19-20 "[God] will break down your stubborn pride and make the sky above you like iron and the ground beneath you like bronze. Your strength will be spent in vain, because your soil will not yield its crops, nor will the trees of the land yield their fruit."

If you noticed everything we do for ourselfs goes in vain and hurts people. When you think your helping one person your hurting another person. If you follow God the only person he would hurt is anyone who is naturally evil. So how do you fight pride? Get rid of the thing you are proud of even Jesus said it metaphorically "If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out."[Matthew 9:43], Another thing to do is make yourself humble "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up."[James 4:7-10], I tell you now that in a world were it wants approval and gets it by force practice not caring what others think when you do the right thing or the wrong thing. If you do the right thing the world will hate you but if you do the wrong thing than you need to seek forgiveness from god as you have wronged him.

The Next Deadly Sin is Wrath. Wrath is dangerous because it hurts those around you both friend and enemies. It is okay to be ANGRY but in the book of Ecclesiastes Chapter 3 it is title "A Time and A Place" there is a time to back down and a time to stand and fight. Whereas righteous anger never acts rashly, excessively or inappropriately, impure anger is characterized by impaired judgment. Dante who wrote The Divine Comedy described Wrath as "love of justice perverted to revenge and spite." In order to control ones anger it is very important to pray. Pray for those who cause you anger and that you do not get angry. As with pride it is important to get to the source of your anger avoid it.

Sloth is another Sin that must be controlled to me it comes second in the Deadly Sins. How can you turn a sin into its opposite virtue if you are unmotivated to do so. As the most religious of the patterns, it is better described as a spiritual sluggishness. It is a slow spreading cancer of apathy that saps strength and motivation. The resulting weariness leads to lower standards and a willingness to settle for less. With Sloth you need to find something that motivates you. If you have a passion you can get yourself out of any situation. I tell you to be patient because, once you are slothful your body will begin to enjoy it and that will lead to a downward spiral. Here is some personal wisdom if you understand it; you will understand how to get rid of sloth "It would be better to dig a hole then immediately refill it than to do nothing at all."

Lust is a powerful feeling everyone likes the lustful feelings however, two things must be noted lust does not neccessarily have to do with sex. The term lust for power or lust for life has nothing to do with sexual feelings. Unlike gluttony, which seeks to fulfill legitimate needs, lust seeks to satisfy illegitimate needs. The assault of lustful temptation generally starts at the onset of puberty, and continues well into old age. Lust is increasingly addictive, making it especially dangerous. It can be sated, but only temporarily. When it returns, it comes back even stronger, and what once was a satisfying lustful thought no longer provides the same degree of gratification. Like all addictive behavior, lust produces bondage.

As your will to resist weakens, then you become increasingly enslaved to your own lust. Saying "no" becomes more difficult. Wear yourself out. Not only must the "inward man" be addressed, but the "outward man" as well. In addition to purifying the mind, exercise the body. Physical exertion can undermine lust, so do something physically strenuous: exercise, jog, etc. Do not be afraid to use fear. Initially, fears of getting caught or hurt can be an effective barrier to fulfilling lustful thoughts, but over time, these inhibitions and fears will fade. Continually consider the possible consequences of your behavior. Progress against lust is made with small, hard-fought steps, but failure comes with great leaps. A single "small" lapse can demolish weeks, months, or even years, of hard fought success.
