Prince of Persia Movie Review: A Winner

Not only is this movie based on a video game, but it is also made by Disney. Video game movies are often terrible, so expectations should not be high. Disney movies, on the other hand, are often successful. Disney is like Porsche, they do not change what works. Going into a Disney movie, one can expect no major revelations, no deep thinking, no vulgarity, the bad guy will lose, and the hero will get the girl. The sole purpose of Disney is to whisk you away from the moment where everything is "magical."

If I were to go into this movie expecting an action-packed version of The Transporter series set in the Middle East, I would be crazy. If I went for beautiful lines and broad, deep emotional spectrum, once again I would be at the wrong movie. If I came, wanting only to be entertained, satisfied at my purchase, and not have someone give me a new perspective, this was my movie.

I loved it, it was fun to watch. It reminded me of Aladdin meets Pirates of the Caribbean. From the moment Gemma Arterton appears on the screen I was sold if I was not already. That girl is just stunning. The action was very neat I thought, despite the lack of brutality. The themes were nothing new for Disney. The movie was even a good length; it did not seem rushed, nor did it drag on.

So the characters were not very dynamic. The lines were not Faulkneresque. It was not historically accurate. No blood exploded from anyone's head. I still enjoyed it. A lot of people go to movies just to be disappointed, to tear it apart. I have never known why, but I even go to the movies with some of those people. If that is your "cup of tea" by all means go tear it apart, its good for that too.

There is not much I can say about it really. I think it has everything.
-Good, recycled plot
-Pretty girl
-Flawless hero
-Bad Guy who lose
-Some humor
-Some visually entertaining action
-Some things to criticize
-Good ending

Nothing in spades of course, but everything is there with no bad aftertaste. Go see it, you know you want to.
